When we were in California a couple of years ago, my daughter REALLY wanted to see the Hollywood sign (ok, so did the adults too ;) ). We did see it from the Kodak shopping place - but it was tiny in our photos. When we tried to drive closer, we just couldn't find it at all.

We're heading back in a few weeks - is there somewhere that we can get closer to the sign without getting lost?!!

:goodvibes

Hi there, when we were at Griffith observatory a few weeks ago we had a good view of it, I'm not sure if you can get any closer than that.

There is a lookout spot on Mullholland Drive that gives you a great view of the Hollywood sign. I've taken different DISers up there. :)

Thank you!

How would we get to the lookout point from Hollywood itself? Is it obvious how to get to Mulholland Drive? (sorry if I'm being stupid!!)

That freeway on the map is HWY 101. it connects with I5 right in downtown los angeles and Mulhulland drive is right of of it! Easy to find!

The Hollywood sign is at the top of Beachwood Canyon. You can't actually get to the sign, but you can see it pretty closely. You would get to Beachwood off the 101 FWY (I think at Gower, but I'm not positive) and you'll find Beachwood off of Franklin.

I took this picture of the Hollywood sign last week from the walkway up to Griffith Observatory. This is one of the best views, plus afterward you can tour the Observatory - it is free to tour and really worth a look.

Sorry, the pic is so big, I'm having trouble re-sizing my pics currently.

You need to go all the way up Beachwood. You'll pass thru the old Hollywoodland gates, take a lot of twisty, windy turns, and eventually you'll come to a gate that says you can't go any further, because that's the access to the sign. That is the closest you can get, and boy oh boy is it ever CLOSE! I'll post some pictures, but it really doesn't do it justice to show just how close you are.

I was really sad that we couldnt get closer to the sign.... I absolutly HATED the drive up those small, windy roads! We drove our minivan and I felt like I was in a Mac truck lol..We couldnt make a few turns and had to actually ..turn, back up and turn again:rotfl:

There was a lady though, selling lemonade at the top :rotfl2:

Have fun!
