I have heard you can walk to it somehow, is this true? And if so any idea how to do it?

Or best place to get as close as possible to it.

I don't know that much about it but I know you can see it from some of the hiking trails in Griffith Park. I'm not sue you can go right next to it though.

It's one heck of a hike - about 6 miles.

Use the Bronson Canyon entrance to Griffith Park to get to the trailhead.
Take Canyon Drive all the way to where it dead-ends and hike Brush
Canyon Trail from there. At the top of the hill, follow the road to your left
which dead-ends in about a mile just above and behind the Hollywood
Sign. A fence keeps you at a distance of about twenty feet.

You'll pass the "Batcave" along the way.
