Not sure I want to use 2ts on HBD, unless it is really good and worth it. We have not dined at either location so looking for some suggestions.

You will get many mixed reviews on Mama Melrose. We have dined here three times and have always had great service and good food (we are going in September again for the Fanstasmic Package). We did Brown Derby five years ago for my DH's 50th birthday. We did not like it all that much. Our server was terrible (and there were only four or five other tables in all with people dining); he could not answer our questions (now, I'll give the benefit of the doubt that he was new); we did not like our food--believe we both had some sort of steak--terrible; my DH had the grapefruit cake and he said he had never had such a terrible dessert. Now, we always give places at least two tries in case of the first one was a night off. However, we have never gone back to Brown Derby because we just don't think it was worth the cost and certainly not worth two table service credits to us.

I would definitely recommend the Fantasmic package but go to Hollywood 'N' Vine. It's buffet style with something for everything. You can eat at your own pace and make sure you have plenty of time to get to the special entrance for your reserved Fantasmic seating.

I did it in 2006 and it was cold. They CM was so friendly, they gave us complimentary hot chocolates to take with us. I can't wait to go again!

Obviously this is just my opinion, but the Hollywood Brown Derby is one of the best TS in all of the theme parks, period. My wife and I did the Fantasmic Dinner Package at HBD last October and really enjoyed ourselves. The Cobb salad at HBD is amazing. The next time we go, I'm having that as my entree rather than splitting it with my wife as an appetizer. If she wants some, she'll have to order her own  .

I had the filet at HBD and was quite pleased with it. HBD is not a steakhouse, so don't go there expecting that sort of attention to the steak, but IMO it was very good, easily outpacing the filet at Le Cellier (which is without doubt the most overrated restaurant in the history of the World). It was cooked exactly the way I asked and was quite tender and full of flavor. I believe that my wife had a grilled salmon dish that she thought was quite good. For dessert I had the flourless chocolate cake and I believe my wife had creme brulee. On the whole, the experience was great and we will be returning. The service was decent (definitely not excellent) but since it was adequate I'm not going to complain. The atmosphere is also much classier than anything else you'll find at the Studios. I'd give it a shot if I were you.

We don't do the dining plan, so I don't really think about it in terms of credits. Whether it's worth using two meal credits per person is something you'll have to decide for yourself. We paid OOP at the Brown Derby and would definitely do so again.

We've done the package twice at Mama Melrose. It's one of DH's favorite spots in WDW. This year, we're moving over to HBD just to try something new and because my kids think it sounds cool. Sorry I'm not more helpful.

I've eaten at both those restaurants several times, and really like them both. I would point out that the Brown Derby is closer to the Fantasmic! stadium, and so would be a shorter walk. But either is an excellent choice methinks.

Enjoy.

We are going to dine next weekend with some friends at Brown Derby. (Not on a DDP.) It has been years since any of us have dined there.
However, I just can't see BD being a 2 credit pp dining restaurant. For 2 credits pp, I would definitely eat elsewhere.
But we will see next weekend what we think. They would have to really knock my crocs off to beat Tutto (WS) at one table service credit pp. ;)
