Hollywood and Vine = Yuck :(

We are going with DD2 and DS1 - and they adore the PHD characters, otherwise we'd avoid it like the plague.

That said.. are we going to need a burger afterwards, or will we at least fill our tummies with 'average' food?

You will be able to fill everyone's tummy just don't be surprised at the mediocre service or the bland blah food.

wow! i am sooo surprised to read all the negative comments re: H&V... we've been there at least half a dozen time (sometimes more than once in the same trip) over the past ten years and have always been more than happy with it...

we've had b'fast there once and it was above average... character interaction was great too!

we had lunch there in august and it was excellent... we were traveling w/friends and their baby was sick (we think heatstroke) and the staff was amazing! even arranged for first aid to come to the restaurant rather than take the baby back out in the heat to go to them! the food was also above average again...

dinner is our fave, esp the variety of salads and the corn spoonbread... omg i could eat that stuff all.day.long. i do, however, miss the root beer sweet potatoes! all other offerings have been average/above average (compared to other wdw buffets).

we also have a child w/food allergies and have met w/the various chefs over the years and again, have nothing but rave reviews!

We went to H&V in the middle of a huge rainstorm without an ADR, praying that they would take us. We got in immediately and were so thankful. The food was fresh and hot.....basically Golden Corral quality. We were okay with that though. As long as you don't go in with great expectations, I think it's decent for a buffet.

For me, H&V was a slightly upscale Golden Corral. Nothing to write home about and the food was a step up from most CS venues at HS.

Our frist day, we plan on going there for Breakfast for our frist day there. Whats the breakfast like we usually do CP,O'hanns so thats our comparson.

Ugh! I really hope its not that awful. I'm not a fan of buffets at all and if this is gross and dirty then i will be in trouble. I really wanted the Fantasmic package though (have been with and without it before and swore I would never go without the package again). Are the characters always there? DS13 will not be thrilled with Disney Junior characters.

We used to love H&V, ate there twice some trips, the food was a different variety then other buffets, and I agree the salad selection was great! About 3 years ago we went late one night for dinner, we were one of about 3 tables left and they did scale down on the food and not refill anything that was empty, I was a bit upset over the lack of selection that time, our waitress was wonderful though and had refills there for us before we needed them. After that trip I said never again. Well we gave in and went last year for my DD 15, she wanted to see the characters, yes a 15 yo, well I got the last laugh when I told them we were celebrating her birthday.:rotfl: The character interaction for lunch was wonderful, the food was good, not my favorite buffet, but we all left full and all resturants when busy can have some spills or sticky places that may get missed or over looked, you are at WDW with a lot of kids! We enjoyed it and although we aren't in it for the characters any more and have started to try signature dining options, we would go there again. Every one has there places they like and don't like for us it's Boma, and it still gets great reviews.

I've eaten at H&V three times and I have an ADR for my September trip. For me, as a vegetarian, it's great- lots of nice, fresh salads and vegetable dishes. I've never understood the negative reviews. Maybe the meat is bad there? :confused3

Lord we went in 2005 during spring break and needed to eat, we chose H&V b/c it was practically empty.. It looked like buffett had a great variety than we realized that it was the same food on both sides of the buffett and it was very bland.

Im suprised that 6 yrs later its still so bad... We all need to complain, maybe they will do something about it?

H&V is basically the Golden Corral of WDW.

I laughed when I read this. When we ate at the GC for the first time, (being from Canada had never heard of it) I had "The Wedge" , lettuce and blue cheese dressing, for the first time. I loved it! Still do! I had a few other very tasty dishes there too.
So, I don't associate the GC with bad food:rotfl:
When Dsis had the Fantasmic package she ate at MM and really enjoyed it.
She's telling me how good it was right now!

We ate there for the first time last year. We did the Fantasmic package and had a late reservation time (around 5ish), so that is why we chose H&V over MM. I agree with many of the PPs that the place was not very clean. But the one thing that I could not get over was the family that was sitting behind us had their toddler sleeping right on the floor. Not in a stroller, not in a chair, not on a blanket...on the disgusting dirty floor. Besides the gross factor, he was sleeping right behind my chair which made it very uncomfortable for me to get up and get my food, which you need to do at a buffet.
With this being said, we do have H&V booked again for the Fantasmic package this year. We vowed to never do Fantasmic without the package and we were able to get a 5:00 seating again (for a 8:30 show). Of course I keep checking daily for a late seating at MM.:)

We ate there for the fantasmic package and all I can remember was that I did not like it. I do not remember anything specific other than the food was bland. I just made a mental note to never eat there again. We are going in June and I decided to go ahead try Brown Derby--even though it will take 2 TS.

That is such an insult to Golden Corral!! :thumbsup2
Honestly, the buffet at H&V was HORRIBLE. We will never eat there again, even though the characters were the highlight of our meal.
YUCK YUCK YUCK! :scared1:

eaten and Hollywood and Vine three times and never had a bad experience. The service varies with the server but overall the good was good, the service was decent and we will go back again!

I completely agree that H&V is Horrible!!! I'd rather eat at a Golden Corral ... heck Picadilly is like 4 star dining compared to that place!

GC is not bad. I like a trip to GC now and then, but it's not worth the prices HV charges.

If one is looking to do Fantasmic, I strongly suggest Mama Melrose. Dunno about 2011, but last year, it was appetizer, entree, dessert, and drink for each diner doing a Fantasmic package. So for our party of 2 adults, 1 junior (counts as adult for DDP), and 1 child, we had to wade through *3* full-size appetizers, two orders of calamari and a bruschetta. Left there cross-eyed from being stuffed so much.
