I chose this restaurant as part of our Fantasmic package.
Have I made a good choice? I really hadnt done any homework restaurants in HS. Is is character for dinner as well? thanks!

No, it is not a character dinner (only breakfast and lunch). I'm sure others will post that it is "okay" for a buffet, but it is one of two restaurants at Disney that we will never go to again (the other being Boatwright's). We've gone twice and both times had terrible, rude service and bland, lukewarm yucky food.
Went once, kept us waiting forever, terrible service, no drink refills, tables were never cleared off nor were out dishes so we kept putting them on the other dirty tables, the food was horrible.
I think KatMark and I have replied to everyone of these posts. I have had the opposite experience, food was good, once again nothing to write home about but was a lot of choices even for kids. Our service both times was excellent never ran out of soda, did the character breakfast and the dinner and had good experiences both times.
It gets mixed reviews. We enjoyed our meal. The buffet was kept well-stocked, hot food was hot, cold food was cold. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. The chef visited our table, because of my kids allergies. He was extremely helpful. It's a bustling, noisy place, so don't expect a relaxing meal. I had a yummy Purple People Eater cocktail, which helped a lot.
This place is one of the few that gets more negative reviews than positive or middle of the road. If you are not going for breakfast or lunch to see JoJo and friends, I would explore other options
We love Hollywood and Vine! It's a really great restaurant that doesn't deserve all the bad reviews it gets. Give it one try and you might like it. We went again this year and I will go back again. Great service and food, especially the desserts!
We ate there last trip for the fantasmic package because we weren't really interested in the other places with the package. We went in starving, loaded up our plates, tried our food, and left still hungry. Even the desserts were pretty gross. We def won't go here again
We have not been disappointed in hollywood and vine. I have read the bad reviews, and we just have not experienced that.
I am not a good cook so maybe that is why we don't mind the food.
There are currently only 3 choices for Fantasmic Dinner package.
Hollywood and Vine
Mama Melrose
and another that is 2 TS credits
We decided last week that we wanted to try and do Fantasmic dinner pkg for our Oct trip. The only resutrant that was availabl was Hollywood and Vine (which should say something!)
However, we ate there 2 years ago, and while it was not our 'best' meal, it wasn't the worse either (come to think of it, we really didn't have any TERRIBLE meals, we really only had a probelm at Coral reef, the service was bad)
From what I understand from reading reviews is no one is really thrilled with with TS choices at HS.
Chalk up another positive for Hollywood and Vine from me. My family loves it. We usually go at the very first dinner seating (3:45), so the staff isn't busy and the food is hot and delicious. They have a wide variety of food, from mac-n-cheese to merlot-infused chicken. The desserts are great too! If you can, go early. We never have any troubles. Enjoy!
Non-character buffet where the management team appears to have issues in providing consistent experiences for guest. It might be advisable to be one of the earlier times, if available, to possibily improve your chances of experiencing a positive time. This is not an establishment we recommend but clearly since it still exist there is sufficent following (or just new flow of new diners) that allow this place to remain unchanged.
We opted for the buffet for the TS option for the Fantasmic Package. It just seemed to be a better fit with my picky DS. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We LOVED the corn spoonbread. It was like eating candy!
We got a 4:10 ADR. We were seated promptly. I remember the restaurant being sparsely attended at that time. I wanted to have sometime to walk around before sitting some more for Fantasmic. I remember walking past later in a more normal dinner time and seeing tons of people waiting. I second the idea of getting an earlier ADR. It worked well for us. We worked off dinner before the show and were hungry enough to enjoy our popcorn!
i was just there yesterday. had the fantasmic package and a 5:00 ressie. we absolutely loved it. we were sat immediately and the food was certainly plentiful and hot. the only other buffet we did was chef mickeys and i would rate hollywood and vine miles above chef mickeys. they more choices and the food was just plain better.
we'll eat there again!
O.K. I am nervous, we have an adr there for Sept. 19 for the fantasmic package and i know with free dining we won't get another adr anywhere else. Just as long as i don't get food poisoning. I read somewhere that it happened
