We were at the MK on Monday and my friend had never had a Dole Whip. It had been years since I had either, so I was looking forward to the Dole Whip float  Imagine my disappointment as we're eating the ice cream that we discover this:

Has it always been hollow?? I now am not so sure that this is worth $4+ dollars. Still very good, but yet a little "lacking" ;)

Yep. Every one I've ever had was like that. My favorite WDW treat, btw.

I have had that happen randomly in the past with multiple types of "soft serve" treats. It's just something that can happen.

My uncle is 80 years old. I remember a story of when he was in high school scooping ice cream. He was taught how to scoop it so it looked big and was hollow in the middle.

Love those Dole whips

LOL seriously? If I had gotten one of these I would have asked for another....

I'm a bit younger than that - ok, a lot younger than that... but in high school I worked at Baskin Robbins - we were taught the same thing!

Finally found my hallow Dole Whip float picture - from 2008!

Every soft serve from PA to the Jersey Shore to Myrtle beach and WDW has ALWAYS been like that.

Thats weird, I have had several dole whips over the years and never had one with a hole in it, maybe I always got a new person, that didn't know how to rip of the public yet. But I am so ready for my next one in about 10 days, I don't care at this point if it is hollow or not.

Isn't the Dole Whip machine at Captain Cook's (Poly) self-serve?

I don't think you can get a float there, but if you just want the soft-serve, you can make sure you don't get a hollow one there. ;)

On a related note. I got my first Dole Whip(s) at Disneyland last weekend. The plain soft-serve was hollow, but very tall and still PLENTY for me. The next day, I enjoyed the float much more and didn't notice if it was hollow or not, but it was also plenty regardless.

Just back...my Dole Whip was not hollow...guess I was just lucky. LOL :)

It was delicious! During the eight days there, I had two of 'em!

My husband and I always get a dole whip float to share. He says it has always been hollow. I never noticed because it was always more than enough for the both of us.

I think the hollowness keeps it from over flowing the cup when you eat it. My kids both got floats one hollow and one not. The solid one made a huge mess and liquid kept squishing out the top of the cup with every bite.

Please dont flame me...... but..... whats a Dole Whip?

We had Dole Whip swirls a couple weeks ago and DH noticed same thing about hollow ice cream. Was not like that the last 2 times we have had one.

Its pineapple and soft serve ice cream combined... if you get the float they put pineapple juice on the bottom.:goodvibes

Thank you, it looks so good; but how disappointing .... I dont like pineapple..... :(

Yup. . .any soft serve really. . .though I think dole whips have an icier consistency so the outer form is more solid and the hollow center remains. . .

Off subject. . .but many years ago (summers from high school through college) I worked for Friendly's Restaurant. I started working the 'fountain' scooping ice cream. Even for hard ice cream, there was a very distinctive way of scooping the ice cream to make the 'ball' appear bigger, yet to be filled with air. Just pulling it at the right angle across the ice cream made it happen. Filled the sundae glass with far less ice cream. . .

For soft serve too, not compressing the swirls (so it packs in and fills that hollow center) and pulling up as you go. . . maximum height with least amount of product.

Lot o' "tricks" out there. . . all still mighty tasty though! :)
