Well, if you've followed our previous TRs, you know that we usually have pretty much the same travel day every trip. Not this time. We should actually be in the air right now. We are not. I will detail this more in the TR when we get home (when I won't have to type on an iPad), but here is a summary of our day:
The day started with Dug's grandma's funeral. Then time with family. The family was also getting together for a pizza dinner tonight, but we had to be dropped off at the airport before that.
We got to the airport about two hours prior to our departure time and planned to use our free Delta Sky Club passes during our wait. However, we had two things that prevented that:
1. We needed to get our seats next to each-other and had to go to the gate to get that fixed.
2. The Sky Club near our gate was closed for renovations and the only open one was on the other side of the airport.
So, we decided to save the Sky Club passes for another time. the gate agent was great and quickly fixed our seating assignments. We waited at the gate for a bit. Then there was an announcement. Our flight was going to be delayed at least 10 minutes. No big deal, right?
Until the next announcement...
I almost thought this one was a joke...
But it wasn't...
Our plane had mechanical problems that were going to take a long time to fix. So long that they had to find us another plane. Well, the good news was that they found us another plane, the bad news is that the new plane was running late.
Our 7:20pm flight was now scheduled to depart....
Around....
Midnight!
Yes, a five hour delay and an overnight plane full of kids going to Disney!
You can imagine how thrilled all of the passengers were!
Oh, and you haven't heard the best part yet!
There's a Winter Storm Warning tonight! The snow is supposed to start soon. And all anyone can really say is that "hopefully" it won't delay or cancel our new crazy late flight!
So, you remember those Sky Club passes? Well, that's where we are now passing our time. There's free food and drinks, even alcoholic drinks. Which, let's face it, are necessary after a day like this. Free wi-fi. Comfy chairs.
Our flight status has been moved up to 11:30pm. For you math whizzes, that means we'll still (best case scenario) get into MCO around. 4am. After a Magical Express ride, we should be to the Poly around 5am.
You know we're budget-conscious. $246 for a few hours of pre-rope-drop sleep just cannot be justified. Here is where we had to count on some pixie dust.
We put in a call to the Poly, explaining our circumstances. We had to go through a few people (up to the"big boss"), but we managed to get a refund for our first night at the Poly, but when we arrive, they will have a room ready for us!
How awesome is that? Disney rocks!
So, here we are hoping the plane hurries up and the snow holds off. And maybe we can get some sleep on the plane. The Sky Club is open until 10pm, so we've got another 45 minutes. And we have $12 in food vouchers from Delta! How generous...
I hope the rest of the trip is magical!
