Hello everyone,

I am new to the boards and need a little help. I have been a fan of Disney for a very long time and my husband has never been. I was wondering when holidays normally start at WDW and when is the best time to go. We got married on Halloween last year so I know we want to go to the resort around that time and also soak up a little Christmas magic as well.

Thanks in advance for all the help and advice.

Two years in a row we went the 1st week of November. During the first week, the Magic Kingdom quickly transformed from Halloween to Xmas. I think it was 11/4 (Wed) this year that it started. People were talking about how they were their late last night and now early this morning it was all transformed. They did the lightening of the castle that night, too. Going back to my resort at YC, I saw the tree that stands outside DHS in three pieces ready to be put together in a back parking lot. However, I know it takes the resorts and other parks a while to catch up on the Christmas decorations. If you really want to see the parks and resorts decorated, you'd be better off waiting until December.

By Thanksgiving week it's almost 100% Christmas. The WL tree was the last deluxe resort to be decorated last November and that was complete by the Tuesday morning before Thanksgiving. (There are no set times for resort decorations and I think I've read they alternate from year to year as to which ones are completed first.) The parks are decorated sooner but some of the things offered around Christmas (Storytellers & Night of Joy for instance) won't begin until the week after Thanksgiving. If you just want decorated parks, the beginning of November should be just fine for you. Good luck! :tink:

You should be able to be there to experience Halloween & Christmas if you plan your trip to fall in line with the week where MNSSHP finishes & MVMCP begins. You can search historic dates for these events to give you a better idea.
In 2015 MNSSHP ended on 11/1 and MVMCP started on 11/8.

I am on fence about what week to go. I would like us to go when the holidays are in full swing. Since my husband has never been I would like him to experience Christmas at Disney.

We went last year in early November (8-13) and Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios were totally Christmas-y. They put the Animal Kingdom tree up while we were there too. Food and Wine was still going on, so there were no signs of Christmas up in Epcot yet. I want to say that most of the resorts were decorating for Christmas the week after we left.

The weeks between thanksgiving and Christmas are fine, the week between Christmas and New Years the most crowded time of the year - not for the faint of heart.

If you want to experience everything a Disney Christmas has to offer then your trip is best planned for after Thanksgiving. Resort gingerbread houses & decorations are in their full glory and EPCOT's Candlelight Processional and Storytellers will have started at that point in the season. That being said, our family has often visited before Thanksgiving and had an awesome Christmas in the World! We've also visited in December both early in the month (checking out 12/14) & closer to Christmas (checking out 12/20) and prefer earlier in the month. We don't have any interest in being there during the much more crowded holiday week. Whichever way you decide to have your Disney Christmas you will have a great time! Enjoy!
