Where are you cruising, Jessica.
Down the Baja Coast from LA (stops at San Diego, Catalina Island, and Ensenada, Mexico). DD1 (9 next month) is dancing in a national dance competition that happens to take place on a cruise ship! It will just be her and I on the cruise, then DH and DD2 (6) will meet us in LA after the cruise for a week of fun: Disneyland, Universal , typical tourist stuff!
Based on what I know so far, the competition only takes place when the ship is in port (too dangerous for the dancers when the ship is sailing). The girls (Ashlynn's group has 13 girls) will be dancing on the San Diego day for sure. They should be off for the Catalina day, and the Ensenada day is still undetermined! I'm hoping for the Ensenada day off, but we'll see! There is also one day of competition prior to sailing for small groups and solos as well as production numbers with props that would not be practical on the ship. Ashlynn is in a trio that should compete then, and our production number may not compete. Other than that, she should be competing in 2 jazz, 1 tap and 1 or 2 hip hop numbers. The San Diego day looks like it will be a long one for us!
