I just saw on another thread that menu prices increase at the restaurants during holiday seasons? Can this be true?

Im on the DDDP. I am already not happy about the ridiculous tips I will have to leave because the regular prices are so outrageous, but now I have to pay an extra $5 - $10 tip per meal because I didnt plan my trip a week earlier or later? (Im going Thanksigiving week)?

I knew the DDDP was too good to be true. Just in gratuities alone, I could have paid all counter service.

The post I saw was a person at PSB / Norway breakfast. Family of 4 paid $165 !!! I am with a family of 11 !!! $454..... $91 tip for a buffet?????

The holiday surcharge is on buffets and all you care to eat family style meals. Last year the prices went up around $5.

IMHO the Princess Storybook meal is overpriced. We had dinner there 2 weeks ago (the month of June is also a "holiday") and spent $165 for the 4 of us. We spent less the night before at Brown Derby where we had an appy, a couple of cocktails, dinner for 4 & 4 desserts. :confused3

FWIW, I think the CS is a much worse deal. We spent $45 on 4 dinners at CHH. It was ok, but sure wasn't worth $45. I'd much rather spend the money on TS, with a full meal.

Buffet and family style service table restaurants are subject to the holiday surcharge. It will be in effect for Thanksgiving week.

We try to avoid the buffets during this time because I don't think I eat more just because it is a holiday.

I think that it is a way to slowly increase prices as they keep expanding the holiday periods. I wouldn't be surprised if the time from Thanksgiving to just past new years is considered for holiday pricing this year.

Yes, the tips are going to be a lot! I got the deluxe plan too and have planned it out to eat all Table Service and the tip money is REALLY going to add up! I wish they didnt change it!

We were gouged big time this past March. Paid $8 more a person at Garden Grill. Looks like we may luck out for our trip next March. So far March isn't listed on there. Crossing my fingers. Oh wait- nuts!! Our trip goes into April. Have to double check.

My opinion:
Holiday surcharge = Holiday gouge

And since when is summer a holiday? It will make me look more closely at the DDP for next May/June, assuming the cost of the plan also doesn't go up during the "holidays."

I was wondering about that, too. How in the name of all that is Disney did the entire month of June become a holiday?

Other than to make more $$$, anybody know WHY they do this? Is there a reason, like better quality food being served????

If it's only to make more $$, that seems so un-disney to me. It's the same meal as it is in May the month before.

The Holiday surcharge does not neccessarily have to include a holiday. It is a time period that disney has found to be peak dining and they added the surcharge on to offset their overhead. This is not a new concept. Many restaurants in many cities do this, usually tourist destinations and more expensive places. The difference is they figure it into the entree price or whatever and increase them across the board.if you were not a frequent diner at these places you probably would never notice you were paying it, but they do do it.The holiday periods for WDW are May25-July5 2008 November 22-29 and December 16-January 5 for this year.It is added on a buffets and family style buffet restuarants.

they do it because they can.Disney is a buisness and has been for a long time. They do care about customer service, but it takes a backseat tothe bottom line or they wouldn't be in buisness anymore. For every one person that gets annoyed and won't pay it, lots of others will. This started last year, and even during the surcharge period people still booked these places like crazy.it may go away if tourism starts to take a major dive due to the ecnomy, but me thinks not.

It does make the value of my DDP go up! :) We are going Thanksgiving week also!

I figured this was the reason. This is just 1 of the reasons why I won't go during these times. Add in the higher food costs, the higher hotel costs, the higher airfare, and the much larger crowds...to me the fun and magic just comes all undone.

Others of course feel differently and love going during the busy time of year. ME? I'll be at the free ddp! And yet, there are LOADS of people that refuse to go b/c it's too hot, and it's hurricane season. Different strokes for different folks.

Soon, Disney marketers will announce a new "holiday" season for the months of August and September ...

Hurricane Holiday Getaways ... wait for your holiday buffet surchage! :lmao:

We don't have the dining plan for this upcoming trip but it looks like it will only affect 2 of our meals. (we are there 11/19-11/24). kind of crazy, but whatever they want to do to get more money i guess...

Holiday surcharges don't apply to DP (Basic or Deluxe guests). You are on a plan so you will simply pay your daily rate plus tips. No more no less.

:moped: :cool1: :) :happytv:

Emotions added courtesy of my 6yo nephew, sorry!

Oh, yes they will. If the surcharge is 8 dollars more a person and he has 11 people that is 88 dollars more. So that is an additional 16 dollars in tips if you tip 18 percent. If you do that for 7 days, then the surcharges have cost you 110 dollars in tips. So, yes it does affect you if you are on the dp.
