Holiday Pricing

If you are on the dining plan, you won't pay extra. You will probably pay a higher tip though. If I were doing the plan I don't see that I would quibble about the tip.

I am going to WDW during the December period. I will just avoid buffets.

Actually, I'm not if it starts on the 16th - that is my departure date.

Okay, if you are getting the EXACT same meal as the rest of the year, just one week later, why not just tip them the 18% of the regular price? The waiter is not going to doing more work for you than they would have the week earlier. And I know a bunch of people are going to say that they make under minimum wage and rely on those tips, but it would still be the same amount as they would usually be making in tips anyways. If a buffet is $20 regularly, give 18% of 20, not 18%of 28 or whatever it is. It's not like it requires more work from them on behalf of your family, just because you happened to be eating there during holiday season.

But I'm sure a ton of people will think I'm cheap or inconsiderate. I guess this is why I am a fan of the off times too!

I still would not be interested in quibbling about the tip, if it was me. I'd still tip the percentage. No matter to me because I will try to avoid buffets. But if you have six or more people in your party, or you have DDE, your tip will be 18% of the total bill - not the total bill in non-peak time periods.

Holiday surcharges don't apply to DP (Basic or Deluxe guests). You are on a plan so you will simply pay your daily rate plus tips. No more no less.

You keep missing the point that the surcharge Increases The amount that you will either need or be required (depending on party size) to tip! This happens if on a plan or not, plus the higher resort rates for going during these 'holiday/weekend/peak' times that they have now implemented. It matters not how your paying, because the tip is still based on the pricing of the meal, not the pricing of a plan.

I'm not missing a thing and neither is my repeat post. If you're a party of 6 or more you'll pay an automatic gratuity. If this is a deal breaker, don't book those places. In reality very few Disney restaurants are effected by these surcharges. DIS is certainly a place where we feel comfortable "sharing" our emotions, but facts still exist.

Emotion: Disney is taking something away

Fact: No one makes me buy the plan, I buy it because its a deal; if its not a deal I won't pay for it

Fact: Book breakfast vs Dinner surcharge is a moot point because breakfast cost less than Dinner would have cost you

Emotion: Disney is doing this "to" me

Fact: Disney is giving me a choice

Fact: Buying a DP is the best way to "manage" the surcharge expense

I could go on and on, but really this does cover it:

You are on a plan so you will simply pay your daily rate plus tips. No more no less.

I'm sorry you are paying more in tips which means you are paying more. Those tips add up!!!!

You know, it occurs to me to wonder if this is exactly what Disney is aiming for. Drive a large enough group of patrons out of these busy times and to less crowded times of the year adn soon they get to be busy all year round.

I figured this was the reason. This is just 1 of the reasons why I won't go during these times. Add in the higher food costs, the higher hotel costs, the higher airfare, and the much larger crowds...to me the fun and magic just comes all undone.

I don't think that it is entirely it.The holiday pricing only affects the buffets .People can still go eat at TS that are not buffets, and not have to pay the surcharge.Plus, the holiday pricing is in effect not just during the peak holidays, and Disney is already trying to drive the crowds during less busy times by offering free dining and resort dicounts up to 40% off.
