We are just back from a six night stay at this resort and I wanted to share our experience.
Overall, this is a great resort for a budget Disney trip. The two bedroom suite offered the perfect layout for our family of four. The kids loved the bunk beds, the master king bed was very comfortable, and we all appreciated the three televisions (one in the bunk bed room, one in the master, and one in the living room).
Pros:
The pool area is fabulous. The main pool is heated and the water felt great. Pool was clean and lifeguards were plentiful and very attentive. Music was fun. Pool games were comparable to those at Disney. Waterpark area was fun for kids. It was crowded, but that was great for the kids because they made a lot of friends. There is an adult pool area for those over 18, but we did not go because of having two kids. Pool hours were very convenient. 9-8 for the waterpark, 9-10 for the main pool. My girls spent four days, about two hours each time, at the pool, and they thought it was one of the best parts of the trip.
The two bedroom layout is very nice and provided lots of space for all of us. Much better than an ordinary hotel room. There is no door on the bunk bed area, but we prefer that. We can feel close to the kids while they still have their own space.
The room decor is modern and lovely.
Parking is plentiful and convenient to the rooms.
Beds are comfortable.
The location is super convenient to Disney. We visited several Disney resorts while we were there (POR, POFQ, OKW, AKL, GF, Poly, and CR) and it was so easy to get to all of them. Four miles door to door to POFQ. Less than eight miles to CR. No major traffic between Disney and this resort.
Resort employees were friendly and helpful.
Refrigerator in room was great and kept everything so cold. We kept milk and creamer all week.
Microwave worked well and was convenient to use.
Keurig style coffee maker in room. Coffee and cups were replenished daily (as opposed to some reviews).
Food available onsite.
Cons:
There were some sugar ants near the sink in the kitchenette. We called and they quickly came to spray some non-toxic window cleaner on them. They explained that they could not spray anything toxic because of guests. I understand that. Unfortunately, it is hard to keep ants away when there are so many people in the rooms with food. The ants stayed with us all week. We just kept our food away from the sink area. We saw no ants on the table where we kept our food.
Food options are somewhat limited. There is a table service restaurant we did not use, a sandwich shop we did not use (only open during lunch hours) and a pizza/hamburger quick service we used a couple of times. Hamburgers were not good at all and they refused to give us lettuce or tomato when we bought the family burger deal. I asked if I could pay additional for lettuce and tomato and was told "that would defeat the purpose." (?????????) The pizza was quite good and was expensive. Food is Disney price equivalent. We did purchase some fresh fruit and carrot and celery sticks in the little store which was nice since it was hard to find healthy meals available in the quick service.
Parking fees. I hate parking fees. They usually charge resort fees, also, so be sure to check that out before you book. Some are surprised by them. Our resort fees were waived as part of our package.
Check in and check out seemed to be a confusing process for the employees. There were only three families in front of me for check in, but it still took fifteen minutes. By the time we were checked in, there were at least six more families waiting behind us. There should be a more streamlined check in process. On the last day I called to make sure I had no additional charges. I was on the phone for fifteen minutes waiting for them to check if I had a balance. Something like that should take about 30 seconds. Not fifteen minutes. They either have a very confusing billing system that their employees have difficulty figuring out, or they have not trained their employees very well on the system.
Driving to SeaWorld and Universal can be a major hassle. They are only 6-8 miles away, but there is a bear of a left turn we have to make where the light is green for about 5 seconds. Traffic is terrible between this hotel and SeaWorld/Universal. It took us about half an hour each time to drive to SeaWorld/Aquatica in the morning. I would not stay here if my primary goal was to visit one of these parks.
Shuttle times to SeaWorld/Universal are not great, and you have to book ahead of time. The shuttles fill up quickly, so if you want to use them, be sure to book a couple of days in advance. We never used the shuttles because the one day we really wanted to use the shuttle was already booked, and the other days did not fit our time schedule.
Overall we found this resort to be a great family resort if you are staying on a budget, you want more space than a typical hotel room, you want a fun pool area, and you want convenience to Disney.
