I wanted to write something on this hotel because I was both pleasantly surprised and completely miffed with this hotel. We stayed from May 31 - June 3.

First of all it was very close to the parks. Maybe a 10 minute drive. Although it is along a very very very busy road. After reading some reviews about this hotel I was pretty scared, but I was pleasantly surprised with the rooms. The outside is nothing grand, it's the typical pink and turquois tacky exterior, but the room itself was clean. I expected torn up damp carpet and bugs from all the reviews, but it wasn't like that at all. The bed was pretty comfortable and the linens looked almost new. It's a basic hotel with no frills but we weren't there much anyway. I've never been at a resort property so I cannot compare it.

We arrived at around 12 our first day after the plane flight and I asked if we could check in early and they had a room available no problem. Another family member that was there over the weekend had a problem when they only had a double bed room available after she reserved a king bed room back in February. They were able to move her the next day, after the weekend crowd left.

They had a lot of things going on for the kids. 2 pools, movie night at the pool, an arcade, swings and stuff outside, and what looked like a playroom.

The restaurants are nothing to speak about. If you are looking to save money, and they promote the "kids eat free" program, you don't really. A very small personal pizza at their Pizza Hut Express was $6.00. The hotel restaurants were no cheaper than any of the other restaurants in the area, which are all inflated for being a tourist area. For breakfast and snacks we when to the local Publix and picked up some items for normal prices.

So onto the miffed part.......we reserved the room back in Feb or March with a military discount of $67 per night. The regular rate was around $82. When we checked out, they had the regular rate on the invoice, so I complained. The woman said they don't offer the military rate during this season and I'd have to take it up with the manager or call the main number. Since we had a flight to catch, I paid it with plans to dispute the charge. Just my luck, I had my confirmation printed out with the $67 rate which I brought with me but threw out while cleaning out my purse.

There is no way we would have stayed at this hotel for $82 + tax + resort fee which totalled around $100 per night, when we could have stayed on resort at Shades of Green for $72 total.

Anyway, I have yet to get in touch with someone at the hotel who can help me. I called and the managers are never there. I'm supposed to call back this afternoon after 4 and supposedly the manager will be in.

Overall I would recommend this place, but be sure to keep your confirmation!!

Just an update - it took a couple of days but I finally got through to the hotel's general manager and he is crediting me the difference. He was pleasant and professional.

I had read somewhere that the rooms at this hotel had been updated. Did your room seem like it had been done over (carpet and paint) or just spruced up with new linens etc.?

Just curious...if SOG would be $72 why would you stay offsite for $67? After you tack on the daily parking charge it becomes $75. I guess the kids eat free might help a bit.

Because it wasn't totally my choice. This was a big family vacation with 20 people and the majority voted to stay at the Holiday Inn b/c they all have a bunch of kids and we have 1, so they wanted to stay for the "kids eat free" but only once did we eat in their restaurant. We could have stayed at SOG for $72, but to sponsor the family was $99 a night for them, so they had about the same price.

It did seem like it was painted and pretty new carpet. The room was painted a deep (not blinding) yellow and there was a border. I probalby have some pics in the room if you are interested. We had a double bed room but some of the family had the kids suite with the bunk beds in them. It was cute, but made the room seem much smaller.
