Holiday Inn Anaheim Resort Area

Opinions are like belly buttons, everybody has one :). Here's mine:

We stayed at this hotel in April. Here is my tripadvisor review:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUser...n_Anaheim_Resort_Area-Anaheim_California.html

My thought after reading other posts:

A. I thought the area was fine, there were no hoodlums or criminals running around. My car was safe or maybe they didn't care what my minivan had in it.
B. The freeway is directly in front of the hotel. we had a room on the side of the hotel, I could not hear it at all.
C. The ART ride was comparable to all the other ART rides I have taken from other routes/areas, and there have been MANY. If you are the first pick up from the hotel it will take forever to get back to the hotel that night, if you are the last pickup from the hotel you will get to your hotel pretty quickly at night.
This hotel is the second/third pickup in the morning, so at night we got to the hotel pretty quickly. Also, in the morning the ART driver just drove by all the other stops when people were not waiting.
D. I smelled no smoke at all.
E. We had a regular room with two double beds, not a kids room. But I believe the kids rooms are just a bed with bunk beds next to the bed, not a suite.

Lastly, while I think this hotel was just fine for my family and me, we did only stay 3 nights. If I were you and I was going for 8 days, I would pick a hotel with free breakfast because getting everyone to the park and finding a place to eat is all great the first few days, but it would be much nicer to send my husband to get them breakfast in the hotel while we all continue to get ready...

Thank you so much! I read your review. It was just what i was looking for. I also enrolled in Holiday Inn's special club thing, in hopes we will get a little something extra. It is bunk beds with one queen bed. I prefer the queen over the double beds. There is some sort of a wall thing that seperates the bunk beds from the rest of the room, but not a seperate room altogether. We went through getawaytoday so we did get free breakfast included in our stay, which I thought was a nice extra perk. I'm really glad everyone is stating that they didn't feel unsafe. That really does put me at ease a bit. Thanks again!

i never felt a safety issue at all..its just there is nothing there...no scenery nothing...just another hotel next to it...and the fwy across...and coming from Harbor where theres lots of scenery it just felt dead to me...and I agree, there are so many places that are way nicer than HI that would probably be cheaper or the same...not trying to pry but if you can give us an idea of what you are paying per night maybe we can help you find some other alternatives just to think on???

We got the kids room for $82.50 per night. Any idea's you have I would greatly appreciate and right now I am open to anything. I am happy that there isn't a safety issue. I was more concerned about that than anything. I am getting so excited just talking about it. :cheer2:

Does that include ART? You could probably get a hotel on Harbor down by the Convention Center for that price. A little nicer place to stay since you can walk to some restaurants.

Yes, it included ART.

Here are the locations that are available for us to change to:

Ayres Hotel (Includes breakfast)
Jolly Rogers (does not include breakfast)
Castle Inn (No breakfast and I have heard really bad things)
Hotel Menage (No breakfast)
Clarion (includes breakfast)
Hampton Inn (Includes breakfast)

Prices get a little bit too much for me to change after those.

Thoughts?

is the $82.50 including the hotel tax of 17% or is it before taxes?

did you know that Ayres Hotel is ranked #1 out of 107 hotels in anaheim right now??? That means better than all the expensive properties and all the properties along Harbor across from DL...Personally, I would stay there or Hampton Inn but Hampton Inn is a little farther out but you are riding ART anyways so who cares....

Ayres Hotel, awesome except for one thing. It's far you need to take ART. It's isolated from almost everything but a very nice hotel. This poor location give it low rates.

Clarion Inn. It's about the same level as that HI. Not super nice, but good. You can walk across the street into the Toy Story lot, taking the sidewalk in on the north side of the entrance. Hop on the Toy Story buses to the parks.

Other than that at the Clarion, you are a good walk from most things, but not as isolated as the HI. You can walk across the street to Morton's $$$, 5-7 minutes to IHOP, Denny's and a couple more minutes a Carle's JR. Of course DLR is about 5 minutes away and Garden Walk about 12. Garden Walk is about 15 from HI but not walking along hotels.

Hampton is also ok, more mediocre than a typical Hampton but not bad still on par with the HI. It also has dinner but I doubt you will be there for it since the parks close early but after dinner time at the Hampton. It is near (a few minutes) some fast food, and Bucca De Beppo a fun family style place. You would need to take ART or OCTA the municipal bus.

The Hotel Menage is in a wierd location backing I-5. It has some things people like it's kind of hip, but kind of adult. Sort of a party atmosphere at the pool until late. It's usually on sale, which is why it comes cheap through GAT. There is a Taco Bell and Start Bucks across the street. You will have to take ART, or a long walk, about 15 minutes. The walk goes along DLR and then over I-5 so you cross in front of an on/off ramp.

Either of those four I would consider in that order over HI.

Castle Inn and Jolly Rogers are not as nice as a HI at all. Don't change for them even though they are close enough to walk to the parks.

You are always so helpful! Thank you so much :)
I'm going to have a nice chat with the DH and we will decide what we are going to do tonight. I appreciate you and all the other DISers that help make our trips so much more memorable!

We stayed there a few times over the past 2 years. Very nice hotel. It is next door to Staybridge Suites which is another very nice hotel. Never felt it was in a bad area. Its quiet in that area.

The kids room is not a suite type. It is a typical sized room which normally has 2 queens. They remove one of the queens and then add in partitions to create a kids area. It has 2 bunk beds on one side and a 3rd bed on the other so 3 kids can fit. It has its own TV/XBox.

The only minor issue I had was that the rooms thermostat was located inside the kids area. To change it you must reach across the lower kids bunk possibly disturbing a sleeping child. Not sure if all rooms are like this and wasnt a big deal for us.

We got this room on hotwire or priceline for under $80. A very good value but for rack rate of $120+ there are other choices that maybe better.

This kids really liked having their own sleeping area!!

yes, I know exactly where it is...ive been by it a thousand times but OP did indicate that they would using ART anyways as it comes with the pkg...so I figured hey, let them know its a good option as well as Hampton ...

To get straight to the point, I've stayed there twice through Pricelines name your own price, both times paying $60 a night. Never had a problem. would not say its waking distance. guest service was great. room was standard. kids room was nothing special if you only plan on sleeping and showing there. I'd stay there again. hopefully this helps.

I've stayed there 3 times and the neighbor hotel, Staybridge a few times. I've never heard the freeway at all. The location is a bit of a pain if you are driving because it's on a one way street so you have to go through the fairly rough looking neighborhood to get anywhere. Earlier this year when we were at the Staybridge there were a bunch of cars in both parking lots that got broke into, luckily ours wasn't one of them.

It's a pretty clean hotel, the kids suite is nice in the fact that it gives the kids their own tv and parents a little privacy, but it also makes the room feel a bit smaller I think. They have an onsite restraunt that we weren't ever too thrilled about but it wasn't bad. I also didn't like that the two hotels share one pool but it never seemed over crowded, though we always go in the off seasons so I'm sure during the summer it could be a bigger problem.

Overall, for the price we liked it enough, I'd pick it over a motel across the street personally. We did start staying at the neighbor hotel Staybride instead because it had the free, full breakfast and a few nights a week it would have hot dogs and such for dinner for free, not that we ever made it back in time for that.

Glad to hear that! I pricelined our room for less than 75, I tried lower but couldn't get it. I figured it's just a room and it was way cheaper than paying out right for some of the other options since we didn't need tickets etc.

Can you add ART when you check in?
