When do the holiday decorations come down at WDW and resorts?? I'm really wanting to see them and was thinking about a short trip first week of January, say 2lnd to 8th. Would there still be holiday stuff up to see? and is it as wonderful as I saw on the Travel Channel special last year.

Help? Don't know what to do!

Many of them will still be up while you are there but they start taking them down as soon as New Year's arrives. Last year we were there through January 3rd and every day noticed a few less decorations. It started on the 1st when they were digging up the poinsettias that were planted outside of the BCV. By the time we left, many more things had been removed but many were still up.

Is that the only timeframe you can swing? Early Dec is not to crowded and all the holiday events are still being run. They start them right after Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the information!
Early Dec won't work for us this year. Points wise and other committments.
Any other experiences out there?

I've gone to WDW the first week in January in 2000, 2001, and 2002. Osborne lights are up til January 2, so hustle over to MGM! Watch out for me running-we also check in to BWV on 1/2. Most everything is still up when you get there, but when things start coming down, they come down quick! I remember in 2001, going to Epcot on 1/2-big tree and arch of lights still up. 1/4-Poof! All down. I didn't know they could work that quickly! And bring your gloves and hat-some days are very cold.

We had an 8 night stay in January this year beginning on the 8th and all the decorations were up at the BWV until the day before we went home. There were scattered decorations around the entire week. At the beginning of the week the GF tree was still up but by about our 5th day it was gone. None of the gingerbread displays were still up and the big trees at the parks were gone before we got there. It was a great time to be there as the weather was great and the crowds were low. It certainly isn't like being there the first of December when all the decorations are up but it was still great.

I read somewhere there are only about a dozen people who work on the decorations. They start to put them up in Nov. We have checked out on the 17th and you start to see them. Last year all of the decorations except for the main display in the lobby were up by around the 14th of Nov.

There have still been a lot up every time we come down for the marathon in early January... I think you'll see plenty.
