Holiday Decorations

It's a long process. They start going up around mid-November, and just about everything is up by Thanksgiving weekend.

One would think that some will be up by the first MVMCP, November 13.
At least that is what I am hoping. Kinda hard to have a MVMCP w/o holiday decorations. :)

I think they may have already started putting up the Osborne Family Lights. I know they start lighting the lights in all the parks starting the week of Thanksgiving and have them all lit by Thanksgiving week, IIRC. Not all decorations are lit at the beginning of the week but all are up.

does anyone know when the resorts start decorating, especially grand floridian, and the ginger bread house, I would love to see it in person, seen it on the food network one time huge!!!

Last year I was at WDW the last week of October- first week of November. Many of the decorations appeared during my stay at Boardwalk. By the time we left AK was fully decorated as was MK. Osbourne lights officially begin Nov. 13 as does the first MVMCP. Last year it seemed that when they removed the Halloween Decorations from MK they were replaced with the Christmas ones. This year i will be down for the first 2 weeks of november & I expect to be able to see most of the decorations during that time based on what was done last year.

Back in the "Glory Days" of the mid to late 90's....it used to be so amazing...80% of the CHRISTMAS decorations would be put up overnight on Thanksgiving. The would transform the parks into Christmas mode in about 8 hours. It was breathtaking.

The last few years they have taken their time and started doing more and more the week of thanksgiving. It;s just not the same.

In most folks homes, think about it, it takes about a day to transform your home into christmas...thats what disney used to do.

Last year MK was done by mid November and the Osbourne lights were up by the 14th. I'm sure it was nice to have the overnight transformation, we never got to go that time of year then and I think it's really nice for more to be able to enjoy the beauty of the holidays at Disney.

Even though now we've been there in December a couple times, last year when we went the week before Thanksgiving it was awesome being able to take part in the best of Fall with the end of the Food and Wine Festival and also the beginning of the Christmas holidays.

Also, in the 90's there was a huge amount of resorts and a big park added. Even though they may have "cut down" a little, I'm sure they've increased over all, and to transform ALL the resorts and ALL the parks with everything they do would be enormous and virtually impossible. When we left the week-end before Thanksgiving, ALL the things were not yet up, especially in the resorts. Since I've been there at Christmas, I know what was missing yet.

I know many complain about "early" decorations, but to me considering the enormity of the job, two or three weeks early to start is not unreasonable and I REALLY appreciated being able to enjoy the holiday atmosphere last year. People even think they shouldn't start the Osbourne lights in September, heck, with the enormity of THAT job, I'd be tempted to leave them up all year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And why should only "December" people be able to enjoy them!!! :confused3

I was there September 20th-25th and there were already lights up on the buildings on Streets of America!!! They had some spots where plywood barriers were up, and behind them you could see some of the bigger light displays!!
