We are planning our first trip to DL and are thinking of going January 1-6, I know they close HM and Space mountain to take down the holiday overlay, was wondering if anyone knows when they usually do this as these are 2 rides we don't want to miss:goodvibes Also I was wondering about some of the shows like Fantasmic, I know the hours and schedule isn't put out too far in advance but I was looking at last januarys schedule and after January 2nd it doesn't show Fantasmic playing for the whole month, do they really not show some of the shows at all, I understand its slow season but to not show them at all.

There is no overlay for the Christmas Holliday on Space. the HM is usually the monday after the 1st that it get's closed to take off the overlay.

The holiday season ends on January 2nd in 2011. Haunted Mansion Holiday will come down immediately after that and will be closed while the overlay is removed. All the decorations around the parks will begin to come down as well.

The It's a Small World Holiday overlay, however, may remain up until mid-to-late January (it did in January of this year; no telling if that will happen again in 2011).

The advertised holiday season runs through January 3 so HM will probably close on the 4th.

Hmm, I have the 3rd on my site but now I can't remember where I got that info! The 3rd is a Monday, so the 2nd might make more sense... darn it, now I'm wondering if I made a typo.

I wouldn't count on that, though. I received an email from Disney Destinations quite some time ago that said 11/12/10 - 1/2/11. And the 2nd is a Sunday, so it would make sense that on the 3rd - Monday - everything will be coming down (minus maybe IASW Holiday). So because of the conflict in dates, anything could happen, but I wouldn't count on seeing HMH on the 3rd.

I just looked at wdwinfo.com and that says January 4, 2011!

Maybe the answer is, "nobody knows." :rotfl:

January 4th - a Tuesday? That seems to make little sense.

The e-mail I got from Disney Destinations was a long time ago and I posted about it in the Christmas thread because that was the first word we had received of the start date of the season. It was not a holiday-related email, but they were listing some significant dates on the right-hand side of the page, and it very clearly said 11/12/10 - 1/2/11 for the holiday season, which made total sense to me because the 2nd is a Sunday. I think the 4th is a misprint unless it says the 4th on any official Disney website. Until then, I consider the Disney Destinations e-mail an official source, but they could always change their plans.

If I were planning a trip to DLR, I would not count on seeing HMH past January 2nd. You could be in for disappointment. If it turns out that HMH is running, even better...but I wouldn't plan on that. But there is a good chance that IASW Holiday will run into the middle of January.

I agree, and I'm going to change it to the 2nd on my site unless I learn something different. I'm thinking I probably got that same email from DD and perhaps made a typo in transcribing it. The 4th doesn't make sense at all to me.

Truthfully, I wish they would continue it longer because I have some friends who are probably coming into town right in that exact time frame, and going on the 2nd is just not going to give them enough time to see all the holiday stuff!

This was the thread I started about it when I received the DNews email from Disney Destinations on July 19th.

But, again - as we all know - Disney can change things at any time, so you never know. A different start or end date could come up and throw everything off kilter!!:rotfl2:

Well, I take that back... I just noticed I also have the end date for HMH as January 3 on my site. If I have that date in two places, it has to have come from somewhere I thought was a reliable source.

This last January, the end date was 1-3-10 - because that was a Sunday. Maybe you just recopied the date?

I have no clue what's on any other site, but I'm going with what DNews/Disney Destinations said (1/2/11) until I see otherwise on an official Disney site. Disney Destinations is official, so I would assume what they said is accurate unless DLR has changed their plans and posted something else on one of their other sites.

Mary, you know what's interesting?

On Mousesavers, there are a couple of places in which they say the holiday season and HMH end on January 3, 2011, just like you said. So they must have gotten that info from somewhere - but where?

The thing that confuses me is that I vividly remember Mousesavers saying a while back that they had also received the same DNews/Disney Destinations e-mail that I got back in July. So since they got the same thing I got, they should have seen that it said the season ended on January 2nd.

So I am wondering if Disney decided to end the season on a Monday since sending out that email in July? That would be very peculiar based on their previous patterns. Or did Mousesavers post inaccurate info? Or is there a some official Disney source out there somewhere that gave them the 1/3/11 cut-off date?

Actually with the 1st being a Saturday, the Federal Holiday would fall on the following monday, so the 3rd is a Federal Holliday. That would make the Tuesday make sence

Aha! Yes! Master Mason, that makes total sense. That would explain it. A lot of companies will pay their employees for January 3rd as their New Year's holiday. Last year, January 1 was on Friday. So, if that's what DLR is going by this season, then Monday, January 3rd would, indeed, be the last day of the season because some people would still be off work that day (since that's the day they would be paid for in some offices).

Perhaps, at the time I received the e-mail from Disney Destinations in July, they hadn't looked at the calendar and thought it through thoroughly yet, so they just put 11/12/10 - 1/2/11 without a second thought. And then it dawned on them later that the 1st will be on a weekend.

Still, is there any official Disney source that has posted 1/3/11 as the end date yet? I mean, it makes sense the way you explain it - and it will work better for my friends coming in from out of town - but have any of the official Disney sources actually said it yet?

Um Sherry, I am Mary from MouseSavers.com. :lmao:

Yep, that makes sense. I'm sure I got the 1/3/11 date from an official source, just can't remember what that was! :)

Aswering the question about F!: Last year ROA was drained all spring for refurb so that's why F! wasn't scheduled last January. This year, I'd expect F! to show on weekends only.

Oh, really? I had no way of knowing!:rotfl2: When I go on to MouseSavers, I just read the info. I don't pay any attention to anyone's names or anything. But I do recall that somewhere on MouseSavers (and maybe someone else wrote it? Not sure?), it was mentioned that the e-mail was received (presumably the same one I got) and it mentioned the holiday dates. And then I posted over in our November thread that we had the info on the dates here on the DIS first, and that we scooped MouseSavers!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:;);) (The info was posted here before it was posted on MouseSavers!!)

Yep, that makes sense. I'm sure I got the 1/3/11 date from an official source, just can't remember what that was! :)

So far, I'm not seeing anything on Disneyland News, on the DLR website itself (they don't even have the 1/2/11 date mentioned), on the Parks Blog or on D23 with any kinds of dates at all. The only thing I had to go on was that one lone e-mail from Disney Destinations/DNews. So if TDA has the dates set and the end date is, indeed, 1/3/11, I wish they would post it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who received that e-mail with the 1/2/11 date.

Thanks so much everyone and thanks for the info about ROA being drained for refurb, makes sense now why fantasmic wasn't shown.:goodvibes
