Holiday cancelled!

Sending you all a big hug. Hope your wife's condition is soon sorted so your little girl is able to go and see Mickey.

What a shame to hear that you have had to cancelle:guilty:
Hope you & your wife are ok and your son is not quite so upset now by not going, but just remember WDW will always be there ready for that trip once your DW is sorted out health wise.

Oh no, sorry to hear this, but as you say your DW's health is more important and the Mouse isn't going anywhere soon. I hope that she gets better soon!

Hi,
Sorry to hear that you have had to cancel your holiday,i do hope your wife is ok and you will be on your way asap to booking another holiday.A little story(and i know everyone is different)but my nan was recently diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat, she went for all these tests and everything apart from that was clear. She is fine and on medication(a pill)every day for life, but nothings changed she still does things and can still go abroad albeit with a letter from her doctor.Take care and best wishes:flower3: .x.

So sorry to hear about the holiday.

My wife had her thyroid out about six months ago. (well the second half, the first half came out last year and had a cancerous tumour on it so she had the rest out). She's just waiting to go onto T4 thyroxin from the temporary T3 so we're expecting much the same ups and downs in her health until it's stabilised.
She works in the theatre where she had it out and was operated on by friends so we have better access to advice when we need it. We're told it sometimes takes a while to get it right and can wax and wane as other aspects of her health alter. It sounds like that's what could have happened with your wife's chest infection.

Give her our love anyway and I hope she's better soon.

Sending you all a big :grouphug: , hope your DW's feeling better. I had a similar episode this May before we travelled to Florida, with low blood pressure went to the GP's where he told me I had a very fast and irregular heartbeat, and palpitations (never been unwell with anything so serious in my life!!) Which in the end the Cardiologist put down to a virus after a battery of tests. Your wife's illness sounds worse than mine and I hope your wife gets sorted out quickly and you can all plan another WDW trip :tinker:

I'm so disappointed for you all. I'm sure you and your wife feel worse for your daughter than she does herself, though, so I wouldn't worry too much about her. Wouldn't it be great if we could all live for the "here and now" in the blissfully unaware way a 5 year old does? You two just concentrate on getting a diagnosis for your wife's complications and take care of one another. I hope she's feeling better very soon and that we'll all be helping you with your re-scheduled trip.

Hope your wife makes a full recovery & you all get your WDW vacation soon.

Sorry to hear about your wife's problems. I'm sure the hospital will get to the bottom of it and you'll be able to reschedule.

Like you say, Disney isn't going away, so it'll all be there for you (probably plus more:thumbsup2 ) when you're all ready and well to go.

Take care now, and best wishes to you and your family:hug:

I am SO sorry that you are going to miss your holiday! -- We are 3 weeks off and have just found out we cant go so I know how you feel; different reasons though.

I really hope they sort your wife out soon; I have had problems with palpatations in the past also and so I know how she feels. Give her my love.

As for your 5 year old...I had one thought, it wont make up for not going to Disney but it might help. Why dont you go to the Disney store and buy her a cuddly toy, wrap it in gold "magic" paper and make a stamp. Wrap up the parcel and put it on her bed so in the morning when she wakes you can say that Mickey sent it to her all the way from Florida especially for her to keep her company untill she gets to visit him. There is also a really nice money box at the moment in there with Mickey standing in front of a suitcase, you could maybe even give her that also to save her "pocket" money for when she does get to go and visit him.

The other thing you could do is on the day you should have been flying out is let her have a princess party with a few of her friends; they can dress up and eat pink cakes and strawberry ice cream and have a really magical day at home

I'm so sorry to hear you are unable to travel at the moment. It's terrible to have to cancel a trip. :(

I had most of my thyroid removed (they left an ounce or so) when I was a teenager, had no problems for years, had a baby and it all went pear-shaped (me, as well as my health). Took a couple of years to sort out the thyroid, which had ceased to work at all. It's only in the last 3 months I've been able to get a corrected dosage (25 years later!!), and having a high enough dose has made a world of change (not the least of which is, I have internal body heat now! Just can't get used to not being freezing cold all the time! But the added energy is a gift from heaven).

She'll get it sorted out. It's a quick, easy blood test that will tell if her thyroid level is too high. It just takes a bit of juggling to get the right dose, and as you say...Disney will be there when the time is right for you! :)

Thank you for all your kind thoughts and words. :grouphug:

DW has had the results of her ECG and they seem to show nothing wrong, although we have been told that if the palpitations start again, that we are to take her straight to A&E. However, she has to see a cardiologist later on in September, so hopefully things will start to get sorted.

Even if the holiday hadnot have been cancelled, I dont think it would have been as enjoyable as we had hoped, it seems that have all started to come down with this chest infection now (I myself have had to have a couple of days off work - I usually drag myself to work no matter what!), so maybe runnign around Florida in our ill health would not have been the best idea.

With not wanting to take DD out of school in a SATS year, it unlikely that we will look to go next year - rather, we are looking at a couple of weeks in Spain around July time, but our thoughts are to certainly rebook and go in September 2009 - DD will be 8 by this time, so the magic will still there for her, and we can all enjoy 3 weeks with Mickey and the gang without the worry of affecting DD schooling.

Again thank you for all your kind words, and even though I might not post for a while, rest assured that we will be watching! :scared1:

Hope you enjoy your planning and holidays - have a great time.:hippie:

You're not having much luck are you, chest infections are nasty, I had one a few years ago and even after a course of anti biotics was still coughing and spluttering for a couple of weeks. Take it easy, don't push yourself. Glad your wife's ECG showed nothing unusual but I bet you will feel better when she has seen the cardiologist. Maybe you could just think about taking your daughter out for a week tagged onto a half term, judging by her age you are talking about KS1 SATs so work towards those would begin in the Spring term I would imagine. Whatever you decide keep on posting, you can still learn a lot to make your future trip more enjoyable.

The way I was led to understand it SATS were used as an indication of how well the school is teaching the children and not a benefit to the kids themselves...if you really are worried though I think you can get SATS revision test books.

I'm really sorry to hear that your wife is going through this. it must be a an awful time for all of you. I wish you all well, and this holiday will happen for you , its just on hold for the time being:wizard:

Really sorry to hear about your Wife's problems. We are due to travel in five week's time and I dread anything happening to upset the blissful year of planning I have had, but health comes first.

However, your Daughter is only little, quite honestly they shouldn't even know what SATs means at that age. I have a 17 and 14 year old and at Primary School they have quite enough (too much) testing to come in the future. I did my very best to ensure that my kids didn't even know they had SATs exams at your Daughter's age and told them that they shouldn't worry about the SATs too much at 11yrs.

SATs are there to test the school and their teachers, that is why they may feel they have to impress on the children the need to 'work' for these examinations. I don't blame the school or the teachers the system has forced them to do so. I had a teacher tell me that she had to miss out so much of the work that really 'enriches' the curriculum because of the pressure to meet the benchmark targets rather than look at what is best for the overall education of the child.

If your Wife is well enough and you want to go next year, go! Whilst others might criticise my laid back approach, I think that 'education' is made up of lots of things, what you learn in school, at home, travel, life experiences. I am very proud of how my children have performed at school, even though I have been 'guilty' of taking them out of school from time to time.

My 17 year old has been fundraising for a children's cancer charity over the last year, if she reaches the target set (£2500) she will be able to do two week's conservation work in Australia next year, post A Level. She wants to go to University to study Dietetics and eventually hopes to live and work in America. She has travelled to America with Guides at 13 year's of age, made an American friend in New Jersey who has visited us last Summer and whose family we met in New York last year.

Perhaps, and I know it is only a perhaps, the travel opportunities we gave her and the opportunities to think outside the 'box' of SATs has opened up a wonderful world for her and given her the motivation to succeed more than any test results could have done! My Son has come home today with a letter detailing some of the most outstanding SATs results (14yrs) in his school, but I am also proud that he can take his girlfriend out to a restaurant and order a meal, pay and tip, all without his Mum and Dad to watch over him...life skills, learnt mainly on holiday!

Oh but I do waffle on! Sorry!

Whatever you decide, do please look forward to, and plan for your Florida holiday. As I note you are a Baggie supporter, you know how to deal with the 'ups and downs' of life, so look forward to better days to come.

Best wishes to all ! Boing boing from the Wife of a Baggie Supporter!

We would love to be able to book up for next year, and we (myself and the wife) have taken alot of the comments on board about SATS being mainly for the school (I still feel reticent about taking her out in an exam year - even tough I myself do not believe in children having them this early) but probably the biggest problem to overcome would be the doctors themselves.

We had booked on the free dining plan this year with Virgin Holidays, and we loved the thought of going in September, when the parks were quieter and at the time of our daughters birthday. However, to take advantage of the free dining offer for this year, we have to book with Virgin by Nov 7th - unfortunately, DW does not even see her cardiologist until Sept 27th - that leaves little over a month for my wife to be completely cleared by the doctors as we are not willing to commit to such a long vacation until she has been throughly checked out and signed off from the doctors.

If she is cleared (fingers crossed), then there is a good chance we will book up for pretty much the same holiday as we meant to go on this year (as I write this, I realise that we should have been halfway over the Atlantic by now, but hey-ho :thumbsup2 ). If not then, it will just have to be a couple of weeks in Greece and save the big trip for a couple of years time.

Again, thanks for all the replies.

Personally I would book it now and pay only the deposit then if you have to cancel you will only lose your deposit. If you book direct with Disney for the accommodation and tickets to get the free dining you will only lose £200.

I have SVT (supraventriculartachycardia) which is a painful rapid heartbeat but it comes and goes and I have been offered surgery or beta blockers, no thank you to both.

It seems that if the doctor wasn't overly concerned I wouldn't be either and if it was brought on by a chest infection then at some point that will go.

By booking direct with Disney UK and flights with VA I will be saving £600 so a £200 deposit is easier to handle if you have to cancel but maybe having a holiday booked will help focus on recovery and give you all something to look forward to when your wife is fully back to health.

Good luck :thumbsup2
