Can you hold out your arms on rides like Space Mountain, Rock 'n' Roller? I'm always scared to try but I can't believe that no one has ever done so.

The worst mistake I ever made was doing this on Space Mountain - my right middle finger was not a pretty sight for a few days after making contact with the top of the red "re-entry" tunnel.

I love to hold my arms up on the coasters but it's pretty much impossible on the Rock N Rollercoaster since there is a harness that comes down over your head (no room for the arms to go up) and I wouldn't dare try it on space mtn since the two tunnels are really low and wouldn't want to take a chance on losing a hand or anything but you can hold your arms up on Big Thunder mtn all the way through it. in fact, it's more fun that way:D

I always ride roller coasters with hands all the way up. RNR is alittle harder because of the harness... you more or less have to hold your arms out in front of you :smooth: On Thunder Mountain I spend quite a bit of time making sure my 5yo doesn't get knocked around since he is daredevil and likes to hold his hands up too - that ones gets a little rough with a 5yo nothanging on ;) And as for SPace Mountain this is one that still makes my stomach a little jittery before going on. Don't get me wrong - I'm not a fraidy cat but I like to see where I am going and I haven't been on it enough to learn "where I am going" So that ride is always spent hanging on practicing "deep breathing" exercises !!

Ya'll are very brave. I spend my time on all roller coasters holding on for dear life, with my eyes squeezed shut! This last trip, I managed to keep my eyes open on Space Mountain (at least part of the time) for the first time ever--and I've ridden it probably 20 times!

:D

i do on most rides, but never would on space mountain! have you seen that thing with the lights on? it's a wonder my head doesn't hit! :p

I'm a huge fraidy cat and hold on for dear life with my eyes closed the entire time...pathetic, eh?

Anyhow, reading this thread just made me think of the Weird Al song that my son is playing over and over again.....to the tune of Avril Lavigne's "Complicated"

"Why'd I have to go and get myself decapitated" - funny tune if you have the chance to listen some time.

Do any of you remember a few years ago a Brazilian doctor was knocked unconcience on SM? WDW said he must of tried to stand but he said he didn't. He did sue but I have no idea how that turned out. There also was a therory that a snowglobe fell out of another car and possibly hit him in the head. No one knows for sure but he was hurt pretty bad. Anyway I keep my hands in the car on all rides!

I love white knuckle rides and find it more exciting not to hold on. However wth rides that have a safety harness that comes over your head it is impossible to put your hands up so I hold them out in front - this was aswell there is no danger of hitting anything above you with your hands. I'm going to Disney for the first time soon and certainly don't plan to hold on to the harness on any ride!!

I love SM, have always loved SM, but I agree with caitycaity. Once you see that thing with the lights on, you want to duck the whole way through! I know whenever I sit front car, I always ask my family to catch my head if it gets knocked off. Its pretty scary up there!
