Holding account questions

We have reservations for Oct. 14 - 20 in a 2 bdrm dedicated at VWL. We are going with another couple. There is a chance that DH and I may have to cancel . Since we are inside of 30 days, I know that all of the points would go into a holding account - even if some of them are banked points ??? And the points would only be used for a reservation made 60 days ahead.

My questions are: how hard is it to get a reservation 60 days ahead? I know that it will really depend on the time of year we might would want to go. But if you have done this, please share your experiences.

If some of the points used were points that had been banked (I'll have to check, I don't remember) are they lost?

How long can they stay in a holding account?? We have an Oct UY.

BTW, I have encouraged my friends to go without us and take their daughter and grandson. No charge to them. I just don't want to lose that many points if we can't go.

Sorry to hear you may have to cancel your trip. If you cancel 30 days to 1 day prior to check in, all of the points used for the reservation will go into the holding account, including any banked points you used for the reservation. Points in holding cannot be banked and will expire at the end of your UY if not used. Fortunately you have an Oct UY so you will have an entire UY to try to re-use those points. As you stated, you can only use them to book something 60 days prior to check-in. There are people far more knowledgeable than I am about your chances of getting something on such (relatively) short notice but I would think your chances would be pretty good for the slower times like late January, early May or September.

No you won't lose them -- they will go into holding along with your other (non-banked) points and have the same restrictions on their use.

You are lucky because this trip was scheduled for very early in your UY. You will have the rest of your Oct 2007 UY to try to re-use them! They cannot be banked and if not used, they will expire on Sep 30, 2008.
