Because we couldn't use a scheduled reservation, we now have "holding account" points. Outside of using the points at DVC with booking only 60 days or less in advance of the vacation, what are some other options? These would expire 7/30/08. I know that I've read somewhere about banking them for Interval International use in the future...but I can't find the thread. Can this also be done for other options as well? (ie, cruise, Adventurer Collection, etc.)?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I mysteriously wound up with some holding points, also -- anybody out there with some suggestions? ( I say mysteriously because I didn't cancel any reservation - I did, however, upgrade from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom at our checkin at SSR over Thanksgiving)

Do you have another reservation before the expiration date? If there are still rooms available when the 60 day mark hits, they can cancel your current reservation and use the holding points (or just swap the points).

No, I don't have any other reservation nor any other points in this use year. Just the holding points. I think I might see what be available with the 3/4 day II option when it happens...

If I understand your post correctly, you had a one bedroom reservation...but changed it to a two bedroom at check-in? There should not be any holding points from that...I'd call Member Services and have them adjust the account manually.

They "borrowed" points on my account when there was no need to do so...they incorrectly booked a room crossing my use year, then had to cancel it and book it correctly...in doing so, they borrowed points. When I called them, they did a manual adjustment and fixed my account...it was their mistake, and it sounds like putting your points into holding was also their mistake.

Here is what I found on the DVC Member site:

Depositing Accommodations for a Future Exchange
With Interval International, you have the option of depositing your reserved Disney Vacation Club Resort accommodations into the exchange system, then deciding later where and when you'd like to travel. When a week is deposited to Interval International 60 days or more from the check-in date, this is known as a "Deposit First." This would provide you with a 2-year window to search for an exchange. However, once deposited, Disney Vacation Club Resort accommodations cannot be withdrawn. In order to take advantage of this deposit option, Disney Vacation Club must have availability to provide Interval International within the Use Year you're utilizing your Vacation Points.

If you deposit accommodations within 60 days of the check-in date of your deposited week, this is considered a "Flex Deposit." In this case, an exchange may be confirmed only by calling Member Services 59 days or less from your requested check-in date.

So yes, it appears possible as long as your DVC reservation is more than 60 days out.

Options are many but it depends on your situation. Do you have another trip planned you could sub the points and end up with some that could be banked? Plan a stay and book at 60 days out. Plan a stay at a CC hotel. Plan an II exchange. You could bank a week with II, if you do I'd bank either 160 or 270 to give you full exchange options later. Try to reserve and pay for a DCL cruise. You could also rent the points. Hopefully something will work out for you.

Thanks, Chuck S - I will check on that with them - I was guessing that it had something to do with canceling the original 1 BR and then making the 2BR, but check in was kind of a zoo that day and I didn't really get the chance to ask. Sounds a bit silly when I say it now, but we had just driven down from NJ and all I really wanted was to get to the room and relax! :cloud9:

It sounds like the resort booked your two bedroom on points then cancelled the one bedroom reservation. The computer would automatically put them into holding. And likely, the resort CM doesn't work with the points like MS, so didn't do a manual adjustment at that time. If that is what happened, a call to MS should fix the problem. :) Good luck.

Something similar happened to me in Oct. I had a studio at OKW for 8 points. My wait list for BCV came thru 15 days before. They put the 8 OKW points in holding and used 12 new points for BCV. When I inquired MS told me this is how it's done because the OKW reservation was canceled within 31 days for the BCV automatic wait list. That just didn't seem right to me. Eventually they did a manual over ride and used the OKW points and added 4 regular points for the BCV reservation.
