Holding a place in line?

True

True. I guess I was thinking this show is unlikely to be full.

that's not always true. we were there in late august with my son's family and we missed the cut off. there isn't a whole lot to do at AK (although I don't think of it as a halfday" park as some do)that is because it's hard to time the 3 shows if you want see all 3.. and I do. you try to fit the shows in between your fastpasses. throw in a meal reservation at rain forest or yak and yeti. yes those few people cutting in line that were NOT "rejoining" could very well mean you miss that show entirely because you can't make the next showing because of your ADRS and fast passes.

I think you are missing the point PPs have made. If only one family does it then yes you wait just a bit longer but if every family does it then it adds up to a lot more time. One family (minus unique circumstances like Make a Wish children) should not get special privileges that other families don't get…everyone in line would like to be doing something besides standing in line, that is why WDW created FP and why people want more FP then 3.
I'm missing the point? Really. You take exaggeration to the extreme with your statement above. I have been to WDW over 30 trips and rarely have i encountered this more than a couple of times in any given line, and that adds up to a LOT of lines. I'm agreeing not to agree:)

Yea, you don't see it happen now because people find it unacceptable. If the view on it changed where people found it acceptable you would see a lot more people doing it. I think it is an under-exaggeration to say these are the only two people who would ever cut in line if the practice was acceptable.

I'm sure the majority of children and adults in line would love to do something besides sitting in line while still finding a way to manage to save their spot in line, this is why we all like FPs. FPs save our spots in line while we go do something else. So, if it became acceptable then I'm sure we would see more people doing it.

When your on vacation at Disney, relax, don't let 2 people going in front of your a ride line (which is not even going to prolong your time waiting), upset you! Our last trip a few months ago was for 10 days. I don't remember not one person "cutting" in front of us the whole 10 days and if a few did, I wouldn't of even noticed it. Is it really worth getting your feathers ruffled because a person or 2 cut in front of you? When I am vacationing, I don't let these minor and infrequent occurrences upset me, don't know why some people get super upset about them.

This post has become way to argumentative so I'm closing

Just wondering how its argumentative? OP asked a question and people are giving their answers. Is it just because some people aren't agreeing with everyone that makes it argumentative? No one is bashing anyone or cursing. Aren't we all adults with different opinions?

You're addressing a different question -- that is, if someone cuts the line should you let it upset you for more than just a few moments? I think most of the people saying it's not okay to hold places in line wouldn't spend more than a few seconds thinking about it if someone did it. They might shake their head and think, "how rude/selfish/whatever,"
but they're not going to let it ruin their day.

The question posed by the OP, though, is this -- is it okay to hold a place in line? Many have said that it isn't. Even if it's okay to some, once the question has been asked, it becomes clear that many people do not think it's okay. After that, it's up to that individual to decide whether or not they will do something that they know a lot of people think is wrong.

The two questions can be likened to seeing someone blow through a stop sign. If I see someone do it, and unless I think they are driving so erratically that they pose a risk to others, I recognize it as foolish/reckless/irresponsible then forget about it and move on. But if someone asks me if it's okay to run a stop sign, I'm going to tell them it's not.

this thread is about holding a place in line for a show. not a ride. (I still think it's wrong to have place holders in ANY line while other other people go off and do other things. as opposed to someone already in line needing a bathroom and then rejoining the line) if everyone did that, the line would end up much longer than your expected wait time when you chose to join the line..

that is the entire purpose of fastpass.

but for a show, if can very well prolong your wait time, by 45 minutes if you miss the cutoff, and have to wait for the next show.. which DID happen to us. and if you have an adr for the same time as the next and final show of the day you totally miss the show.

Great thing about the bathroom break exception is that the people you are around (and most of the people in the line) will see you go and will feel your pain :)

Honestly this stuff does in general bother me when I am waiting in line. Its kind of the point of lines after all, first come first served. If your entire party isn't there, part of them shouldn't be "first served".

Wait outside and go in together. You never know how the people behind you will react.:crazy2:

How do people feel about this?

For example, if my sister and my dad go do EE FP while my mom and I wait in line before the Nemo musical showing, would it be bad for them to join us after their FP in line about 30 minutes before the show time?

I kinda feel bad doing it, but we're coming from Safari right before and don't want to miss the Nemo show. I guess we could skip EE altogether..?
I have no problem with anyone joining people standing in line, provided it isn't a huge crowd, like a tour group (cheerleaders, band, school group, etc.). Sometimes I don't mind letting the group go ahead (I found out the hard way getting stuck in the middle of a tour group).

What about the people behind you who might mind having a tour group or people go in front of them.

I'm not presuming to speak for anyone else. They are doing a good job on their own. :) I'm just saying how I feel about it. (and as a whole, it doesn't bother me). Like someone else said, I try not to let things like this get under my skin and ruin my trip. We get together at dinner and share stories about people behaving badly, laugh and vote on who has the best story to share.

I'm firmly in the camp of if you want to see or do something, you take your place in line for it. It is not nice or fair for someone to hold you a spot, and then you jump in at the last minute. Plus, as has been pointed out, for shows or character meet and greets it can cause people to lose out on the experience. Not nice at all.

And I think that's what it boils down to. For shows or buses, line jumping means someone won't get a seat if it is full. For meet and greets it means the last group before the cut off becomes the first group after the cut off and you've now taken away someone else's opportunity. For a ride it's often a minimal delay, but it's still a delay you're imposing on someone other than you. I'd prefer to make my problems and choices impact me rather than someone else.

Is there a Disney World policy on this? I know at Six Flags, they say if you get out of the line for any reason you must rejoin the line at the end of the line. I don't know that I've heard that at Disney. Particularly, the "little kid bathroom" part. Or worse, a diaper that needs to be changed.

I believe there was a long thread about someone who changed a diaper in line...
I guess they didn't want to lose their place.

:lol
