Holding a place in line?

Most would perceive this to be line-cutting. I am one of those. How would you feel if a family of lets say 5 people (as an example) just jumped in front of your family because that family of 5 was meeting someone who held a place in lline for them while they went off and saw more attractions? Imagine you've been waiting 45 mins for this ride in the heat. It's a rude practice. A line is there for a reason otherwise it would just be a blob of people. Regardless of whether it is for a show or for a ride it's still the same principle. Would you want to miss out on an experience because the capacity was met and it was met simply by having a few more people join up with someone else waiting in line?

I don't really care whether you cutting in line affects me or not. It's a matter of principle. I and everyone else in line had to stand, wait, and inch along in order to get our fair turn on the attraction. Everyone should enter the line together. End of story. :snooty:

Don't do it. That simple. Unless it's a little kid restroom emergency or something along those lines, just don't do it.

If my wife and I were the last two people in line, and your sister and dad showed up just as we were about to enter, I would let them in and see Nemo another time.

That's where we differ. If DH and I were on line in front of two people and we had family members join late, we would let the people behind us make the show rather than having them miss the show because our family didn't all line up at the same time.

Agreed. A couple who are clearly joining their family is no big deal.
This. I am usually pretty grumpy about people "catching up" with family in line, but I don't care when it comes to a show. Once I'm in the queue (after a certain point) I'm in the show.

Save their spots and they can join you is my opinion. It's TWO people, not 10. Just not a big deal. I've never done it, but I don't care when others have around me.

In the pre-Fastpass era when I was a kid, me, my family and their friends did this once when it was a 3 hour wait for Splash Mtn, definitely was justified then. Maybe anytime you see an extremely long wait (7DMT etc) you could

I don't think skipping is ever justified. That's what it is - it's not just holding a spot, if you didn't wait in line, it is skipping.

Why is it justified for a long line? I actually think it's worse to skip in front of all the other people who had to wait and actually make their current wait longer! (I understand that if you were in the line it would be just as long, but you're not trying to beat the system in that situation.)

People will argue that this is not beating the system, but it is. The lines are not set up for people to arrive later and meet up with their party. They are set up so that everyone who wants to ride gets on in an organized fashion.

Someone (especially a small child and parent) leaving a line to use the restroom and returning in an emergency does not qualify as skipping IMO.

But to have someone from a family hold a place in line while others play, eat and dine is just absurd to me. It's skipping and a blatant disregard for rules. If everyone did this, the lines would be a mess with people constantly pushing through.

My parents taught me how to have a little patience and wait in line to experience the reward. It's really not that hard.

If you want to ride the ride or see the show, just wait in the stupid line. If you don't want to wait in the line like everyone else, don't go on the ride.

Unless you truly do have good reason to believe that the people you're cutting in front of are less important and deserving than you, I wouldn't do it.

You know I was thinking it would not be a big deal because it is a show. When we went it was not at all crowded but that was September. The poster who said they got cut off and had to wait for another show changed my mind. I'd just wait outside the show and line up together. It's difficult to join up in line anyway.

You mean other than just being born so fabulous? Just kidding. I think at a theater like this people often equate it to something like going to the movies. You might meet up with your family after they are sitting or they by the tickets while you do something else. People may not realize that this attraction is filled the same way as other attractions even though it's a show.

I probably didn't explain it enough, we all spent a really long time in line but at times two of us at a time would go off to another attraction and come back, I guess that's what I was meaning for my later statement

But what if everyone followed this model? Then its not 2 people, its 20 or 30 spread out among multiple groups. That's why I said up thread, if you aren't ok with everyone in front of you choosing to do the same thing, don't do it.

I don't think so.

We had around a 60 minute wait for both 7DMT and Test Track last summer. One both rides, a couple was ahead of us, then more and more kept arriving. The TT one was bad. At least 6 other people showed up and now their party of two is 8. They didn't arrive all together. They just meandered in from whatever else they were doing. It was very frustrating.

I get bathroom breaks (If you have kids, you've been through that!) It was two people holding the spot so the others could do something else.
You're lucky it was only 2 becoming 8. Once we were getting into line for TSMM and a couple ran up and ducked into the line in front of us. No biggie, until aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, etc all showed up and cut in front of us to join the original two. Since they were milling around I'm not certain we got an accurate count, but I think the final number in their group was 15.

That does not make it right. You LEFT the line and went to another attraction. You come back you start over in line. If I have to wait along time waiting for this one attraction, so should you, why would anyone else have the right to get out of line go to another attraction and think it's ok, to get your spot back?
Unless it is someone with a child or even an adult that I know was in line in front of me, they don't get past me for the reason that you have stated!

I have a problem with line cutting. Sure, I get why it would be advantages to people, but that is why it's wrong.

I would much rather be off riding EE or KR too. Would someone "hold" my place in line so that I don't have to wait with the rest of the folks who are politely waiting? No, of course not. Because that's simply just not fair.

We teach our children to "play fair, wait your turn, be polite". I think we should certainly do the same in the grown up world.

On Seven Dwarfs over the summer the line was 120+ minutes. They had cast members turning people around who were jumping the line. Told them they could join as a party at the back of the line. I think when the line is that long and you're walking through half of it, its worse then a show or a ride short line less then 20 minutes. I don't think it should ever be done, unless a bathroom emergency. Gather your party before you enter and wait together like everyone else. Why are you more important then everyone else and only wait 1 hour on a 3 hour line.

That really doesn't change anything. Still gutsy. The lines are simply not built for guests coming and going, not to mention it's rude to hold places in line, ride other rides while everyone else follows the rules. CMs would not endorse this practice.

There's no sign that says - send one of your family members in and catch up to them later!

Oh, the chaos if everyone did this.

You get in the line, you wait in the line, you ride the ride. It's that simple. Not enough patience to wait? Don't ride it.
