Hold my umbrella while I find your poncho! A May 2012 TR-- NEW-FINALLY! 1/17; pg. 29

Great update! I've only been to Sci-Fi once, and while the food was good, it is definitely the atmosphere that makes it worth going back to! :thumbsup2 I'm torn for my November trip, because I really want to try 50's PT, because hello, fried chicken or pot roast? Yum! But I'm nervous I'm going to get a server who's really into it and yell at me and make me cry or something, so I kind of want to switch to Sci-Fi! :rotfl:

My vote is always for fried chicken at 50's Prime Time, but hey, I'm a southern girl! :thumbsup2

You got a lot packed into that day, and didn't let that rain bully you around ;) I'm very impressed with your rides, especially with the new fast pass rules.

The fastpass enforcement rules weren't as hard as I'd thought they'd be, but there were definitely times that I hated the new rules!

The 50's Prime Time is great!! The fried chicken and pot roast are awesome. I didn't care too much for the meatloaf though. And of course the desserts are very, very good. I like 50's much better than Sci-Fi.

I like 50's food better too. But Sci-Fi is fine as long as you stick to burgers and shakes!

Ugh, that rain reminds me of our first few days this trip. That sideways wind and downpour--no fun. Good thing when it's really heavy like that it doesn't usually last too long.

Love the Pluto!! We only did a 3/4 day at DHS this time so missed the Animation Academy. :( Next time. I really wanted to do it. We did to the LMA stunt show, though, which my kids (not surprisingly) LOVED. It was lots of fun!

I know you said the Sci Fi is just average, but I am telling you I seriously want a chocolate shake now. ;)

Great update!

You're right--for the most part the rain didn't last long. It would fall hard, and then stop-then start again a few hours later.

LMA is really not my favorite thing at all--too much of a girly-girl, I guess. But my DH loves it!

I think a chocolate shake sounds delicious! :)

Justin's birthday is in April too! The 15th, when is Rachel's?

We love Sci-Fi for lunch, but YES stick to the burgers and milkshakes!

Her BD is on the 3rd. They're just under two weeks apart!

Definitely stick to the burgers and shakes when you're at Sci-Fi! :thumbsup2

I'm enjoying your trip report and like (and appreciate) your title. We were right there with you and Tropical Storm Beryl (May 24-June 2). It definitely made for an adventure and memories!

ETA: I thought you would appreciate this picture from Monday, May 28th and the view from our lunch at Earl of Sandwich at DD. They had to open the doors and sweep the water back out of the restaurant! That might have been the moment when we knew the rain was definitely going to affect our trip!

Wow! Thanks for sharing! That's the day we were at Epcot, and it poured while we were at Captain EO that morning, and later that afternoon (4ish) while we were in WS.

WOW! Just WOW!

Thanks for sharing that photo.

DISNEY BREAK---SUMMER BEACH TRIP

I’ve been absent from the DIS the past week, because I’ve been at the beach. So I thought I’d share just a few pics from this past week. My parents take the kids and grandkids to the beach each summer. We stay together in one condo—My mom books the same one---1900 square feet, three bedrooms, four bathrooms-So there’s plenty of room. One bedroom has two full beds, the second bedroom has two queens, and the master has a king bed-so there’s plenty of room for everyone. The only negative-at least to my dad-doesn’t bother me- is that this particular condo is on the 21st floor. AND, my daddy hates being on high floors in buildings.

Here is the view down from the balcony.

IMG_0528.jpg

The first morning we were there, it rained, and there was this rainbow, right off the balcony. It looked like it was coming right up from the ocean!

IMG_9901.jpg

I won’t give you a full DIS-style trip report, but since I know how all DISers love their food pictures, I’ll share a few.

Our favorite place to eat is Doc’s.

IMG_9907.jpg

Usually I order the “Big ‘Un”-which is a dozen fried shrimp. But this night, I ordered the combo of fried/boiled shrimp.

IMG_0532.jpg

My second favorite place to eat is Sea-n-Suds. I ALWAYS order the shrimp sandwich. The bun is steamed, and so soft and warm. Then it has some tarter sauce, with over a dozen popcorn shrimp on it. YUMMY!

I am going to try to get caught up on all your trip reports, and get a Disney update to my own report in the new few days!

Looks like a great week on the beach, Michelle. And now you've gone and made my super hungry (and I do love me some good shrimp).

Welcome back!

Your beach trip sounds like an awesome tradition! Love the view from the room- but I see what you mean. It IS up there!

The food looks great too! Yummy shrimp. Great combination of fried and boiled shrimp. But I have to ask. Is the shrimp boiled in spices? I only ask because Lisa (Mickeystoontown) chided us Northerners for boiling our shrimp in plain water.

Looks like it was a GREAT trip to the beach :) i wish our beaches nearby looked like that!!! We have rocks and seaweed galore at ours and the water is sometimes all icky and green. We really should move. Hahaha.

Thanks for sharing :)

I am seriously loving your trip report!! Especially the parts about your DH. Especially about the morning bathroom breaks. That caused me to chuckle. LOL!

Can't wait to read more! And I forgot the most important part! ROLL TIDE!!

A week at the beach is always a great week! :) Sorry I made you hungry! ;)

The shrimp there at Docs is boiled in some sort of spice, because it has a little kick to it. Most the folks I know who boil shrimp always put some sort of spice in it. :thumbsup2

I think it's probably just what you're used to as how you like it!

You are welcome, Kim! :)

The beaches in Alabama really are so pretty. The sand is almost white, and very soft and powdery. Even though it may not look like it in the picture, the water is usually very clear. You can walk our and see the bottom for a while!

:welcome: Glad to have another TIDE fan reading! Looks like you're only about an hour east of me!

Great trip report, I'm loving it! Wow, y'all were at Hollywood Studios all day, we can't make it more than five hours without taking a nap lol
Great beach pics, the food looks yummy!

Good to "see" you Sarah! :) I remember posting on some of your other TRs a few years ago!

Oh, I love the beach pictures!! The food looks A-MA-ZING and your girls are just gorgeous. :)

Thank you so much! :goodvibes

I'm sold!

Glad that you got to spend this special time with your family.

Wednesday, May 30

After our good night’s rest, I had but one goal in mind for Wednesday morning. It was one thing that had always managed to evade me on the past ten Disney trips. I was determined, though, and managed to have everyone up, ready, and out the door by 8:25 that Wednesday morning. We walked to the Grand Ceremonial House, quickly made our way upstairs and to the monorail platform. We arrived at the Magic Kingdom at 8:45, without a moment to spare.

IMG_9570.jpg

It was pretty packed with people already, so we didn’t even try to go through the ticket scanners, but just grabbed a spot in the center where we could see.

IMG_9572.jpg

By now you have probably guessed, that yes, indeed---WE FINALLY MADE IT TO THE OPENING SHOW OF MK!

IMG_9588.jpg

Pretty sure that my life is complete now!

After the show ended, we still needed to scan our tickets and enter the park. By the time we did that, and walked right over to Space Mountain, it was almost 9:15. The stand-by posted wait time was only ten minutes, so we quickly decided to ride.

Afterwards, we headed over to the new Fantasy Land. We all wanted to ride the new Dumbo. The wait time said twenty minutes, but it didn’t take that long, plus we enjoyed looking at all the new sights.

IMG_9597.jpg

IMG_9624.jpg

The second Dumbo was running without riders, still in the test phase.

IMG_9602.jpg

IMG_9617.jpg

I think the water feature is so pretty.

IMG_9612.jpg

I really loved this new area. It’s so well thought out, and so much attention has been paid to detail. I loved the “peanuts” in the pavement, and the impressions of elephants walking in the concrete.

Plus, one of the best parts is being able to spy over into the “still under construction” part of FL!

IMG_9620.jpg

By the time we finished this, it was a little after ten, and I knew that we had a breakfast reservation at 10:45. We decided to ride the train back to the front of the park. I kind-of felt like a loser for coming over to the park just for two rides, but no one complained.

We made it to the train station in FL just as one pulled away. This meant that we had to wait another fifteen minutes or so until another came.

IMG_9627.jpg

IMG_9628.jpg

I enjoyed the train ride, but started to stress a little about being late for our reservation. We made it to the front, and exited the park at around 10:30. By the time we made it up to the monorail platform, it was almost 10:35, and a dark cloud was blowing up. After stopping at the Contemporary and the TTC, we finally made it to the Poly right at 10:45. I quickly made my way to the left, only to realize that they had moved the check-in desk for ‘Ohana over to the right side. We were given a buzzer, had our picture made, and then had to wait another ten minutes. To think, I was stressed about being late!

We were seated in the main dining room for our breakfast.

All the characters were there and great!

IMG_9638.jpg

I always like to book a late breakfast, and let it serve as lunch as well. That’s always worked for us, even at ‘Ohana, in times past, but this time I was not happy with how that worked. I don’t know it if was just our server, but I felt rushed—like she was in a hurry for us to get finished, so she could get her tables cleaned and set up for dinner.

This is typically one of our favorite meals---still loved the food and the characters, but the service was a negative for me on this day.

While we were having our meal, it began to rain. I mean RAIN! The sky was dark, the thunder was rumbling, and the lightening was flashing. We decided to go back to the room for a little while.

This was waiting for us when we got there.

IMG_9639.jpg

Not long after we got back in the room, the storm had passed, so I decided to go throw in a load of laundry. Reid wanted to swim, so Kevin agreed to sit outside with him, and do a little work using that free wireless internet!

After starting my wash, I returned to the room to witness a miracle!

My big girls had discovered the joy of an afternoon nap at Disney!

UP NEXT: A MELTDOWN IN THE MAGIC KINGDOM

Saw your TR and decided to sub because I think the POLY is cool and I love a HS graduation trip.

Oh - and I am totally jealous of your Safari lion picture. I can never get one. Maybe I can borrow yours for my TR. :rotfl: Kidding. But it is pretty perfect.

I still have another day to read. Loving your adventures so far.

MORE lion pictures!!!!! Now I am really jealous and will most definitely be riding the last Safari of the day.

I love the AK parade and I love starting off a trip in AK because its such a cool park. Can't believe you had the 1st row on EE twice and can't believe you got back to back Kali rides and didn't get soaked. Lucky.

Coming home to the Poly and walking right outside must be awesome.

I have never seen the candy Lady. Pretty amazing creations.

Ugh to Reid for losing his lanyard. That stinks. I have boys so all I'm going to say is "BOYS!"

Love Teppan Edo!

I'm so so jealous of your Sea-n-Suds eating! I'd do anything for some of their food right now! And about a half dozen other restaurants down there. Gulf Shores/Orange Beach is where we went most every year when I was growing up and DH and I have been a couple of times too. Wishing/hoping/praying I can somehow get us and the little one down there sometime this year! DD needs to get her toes in the sand!

Yay for seeing the opening show! :dance3:

A rainy Disney day and a tired Disney body can add up to some good, hard Disney sleep. ::yes::

AND, yes....you can borrow the lion picture! ;)

I couldn't believe our luck at getting the front row on EE twice in a row--and we didn't even have to request it!

I love staying at the Poly-Have you ever stayed there?

You will have to stop and watch the candy lady during your F&W trip in the fall! :thumbsup2

Boys are alien creatures to me. I had two girls for eleven years before Reid came to live with us. I grew up with all sisters. So, sometimes, I'm just left wondering if this is how all boys are!

Don't you love it? :) Hope you'll be able to get down there this year and let Hannah get her toes in the sand!
