HOJO question...

We stayed there last June and really liked it. The rooms are nice and big and while a little outdated they were spotlessly clean. Our room had a frig and an open closet area near the door and an additional enclosed closet in the room. Really nice to keep stuff stored so the room stayed neat. The people that work there are very nice. The walk to the park takes around 10 minutes. The pool was very nice and clean and they always had plenty of clean towels available. It was very crowded in the evenings as you have a wonderful view of the fireworks from the pool/hot tub area. The one thing I wish they offered is a free breakfast. A lot of the other hotels on Harbor do so that is a bummer. They had a very nice arcade and gift shop. We would definitely stay there again. I don't have any pictures to attach as we didn't have our digital camera then! This hotel seems to always get good reviews. For more info go to tripadvisor.com, they will have a lot more recent reviews and info!

We stayed in May at an Entertainment rate of $45 per night.

I read on laughingplace.com to email a staff there and ask nicely for upgrade.. we ended up with a home office room ::yes::
The home office rooms are larger than standard hotel room, has a microwave, two bottles of water and trail mix each day.
We had two adults and three children .. plenty of room for rollaway (extra $7 per night) and still enough room to roam around and not feel crowded.

VERY clean rooms and grounds (we noticed housekeeping using a toothbrush to clean the tiles on a garden fountain, sweeping walkways of leaves, picking up trash ), it has beautiful trees and flowers and they have strung lights in the trees very nice mood lighting.

The main pool was nice, the children loved the spray ground and we enjoyed the hot tub/spa.
The quiet pool was cooler temp and water was very salty (it's whatever water conditioner they use.. we didn't like it) but not as many people use that one.

Staff are very welcoming and helpful. They helped us put luggage in a locked room and gave us claim tags as we were early checking in. They offered to help us bring luggage to room when we came back.

Beds are comfy, temp in room was fine, hot shower, lots of towels and extra pillows and blankets in room.

Not too bad of a walk.. they do have ART system if you need a break ($3 per day).

I'm going again in just 12 days!

Hi daniluvsdisney,

My family (hubby, me, our five year old son, and our 16 month old son) stayed at Hojo this last March, and it was a great place. The rooms are nicely and simply decorated, nothing fancy, but nice. I don't agree with Amy&Dan who said the rooms are outdated, I thought they were very current in decor. Anyway, the rooms are large and clean with a fridge. The hotel grounds are great, as others have described, and they also have a nice little store that sells snacks, milk, beer, pop, cereal, disney stuff, etc.., and they have a game room, which my husband and oldest son enjoyed.

I'll put it to you this way. You will not go wrong by staying at the Hojo across from DL. ::yes:: The management here takes great pride in the property and customer service, and it shows! :earsgirl:

Ive also been converted to HOJO-

I will stay here in Jan and July and now most likely in May-

The staff is amazing :) -em

I'm from the East Coast, but we have reservations for HoJo for February 2005 and July 2005. I used the Laughing Place discount code. Gave us about $5 off per day.

thanks... I'll be looking forward to our January stay... sure would be nice to get one of the suites, but probably booked already.

just called and booked the king suite...174.00 w/AAA. Wish I could bring it down a little... wonder if it has any special aminities. Anyone ever stay in this one? Theme Park View... wonder if it is a good bldg./ location...:wave2:

Hi daniluvsdisney,

According to the Hojo website, a king suite includes: 1 king bed/ sofabed/ premium disney view/ kitchenette/ micro/ fridge/ coffeemaker/ hairdryer/ internet access.

I don't know the dates when you are going, but out of curiosity I wanted to see what their rates were on their website, so I put a checkin date of Jan 5 with checkout on Jan 9th, and the web rate was $154 per night.

Maybe you should check it out for your specific dates and see if you can get a better rate. Go to www.hojoanaheim.com.

Good luck and let me know if you did get a better rate. :earsgirl:

Just a note to Disney-super-mom: Our room was outdated but as I stated very clean. We could see other rooms that had newer looking furniture and bedspreadas as we would walk by. Also chatted with a woman while our kids swam and she mentioned that the room they had looked much newer than the one her in laws were in in another building. Hotels are always rennovating something and we obviously got a room that hadn't been updated in awhile. But like I said, it was a great hotel and we would stay there again and I encourage others to do so! Glad other people got a newer room.

In response to Amy&Dan:

I figured that's what probably happened. I think the Hojo was undergoing renovations not too long ago. Anyway, I'm glad you still like them despite not being in an updated room. That just goes to show people that despite not staying in an updated room, you still love the place.

Anyway, I hope I didn't hurt your feelings.

We love HoJo and no longer stay anywhere else. The suites are great - good view of the park and fireworks. All of the rooms have now been renovated, nothing seems 'dated' any longer.

Free Breakfast - usually not worth it!
I've stayed at nearly every hotel on Harbor, most have pretty lame breakfast. Cheap bread for toast, gross pastries, toaster waffles and old bruised fruit - I don't want it even if it is free.

Also most of those MOTELS are not as clean and well maintained as HoJo and have exterior doors to your room. Most of those have small pools that again are not always well maintained.

I have always been able to get a great rate at the HoJo (often less than the other Harbor hotel/motels. I'd rather spend a few bucks on yogurt and a decent muffin for breakfast (available in the HoJo giftshop) and stay at the HoJo than stay at one of the other places.

You know Ive converted to HOJO when I dont even think to check the rates at other hotels till after I made my reservation...

(and it was cheaper than the Super 8 for the week I'll be there)

Let me run this by you HOJO veterans: between HOJO, Marriott and Hilton, which one would you recommend.

We are two adults looking for cleanliness, general aesthetic value of the rooms and property and walking proximity to the parks.

Any input would be fantastic!

I haven't stayed at the Hilton, but have stayed at both Marriott and HoJo. Marriott and HoJo are actually pretty comparable as far as cleanliness, proximity to park, and overall 'value'.

Marriott has a Starbucks and a restaurant which is a nice plus. HoJo doesn't have a restaurant, but Mimi's is just accross the street (not Harbor, but a small side street). If HoJo had a Starbucks, it would be the perfect hotel!! LOL!!

We like the pool areas better at HoJo. They have the main pool area and then the quiet pool. We also really like the home office rooms at HoJo.

Personally I prefer the 'atmosphere' at HoJo. I love the twinkle lights at night, the gorgeous flowers & vegetation. I like the way it's laid out. It's always very relaxing to come back to the HoJo after the parks.

I also have to give a huge rave to the HoJo employees. They consistently go above and beyond. They are so friendly and helpful, some of the best hotel service I have ever received.

Thanks for the heads up Buttercup26! I see I have met a fellow Starbucks addict:hyper:

I have gone to the Marriott several times just for Starbucks!! There aren't very many in the DLR immediate area.

So as a fellow Starbucks addict, the Marriott might be the better choice for you!

Have a wonderful trip, wherever you stay!!
