Hojo - No more wired internet

I believe if the lady needs a wired connection and believes the bull her IT department is feeding her than she needs to stay where it works for her. A business I know sends medical records to Ottowa, all the time not thru a VPN and it does not violate Canada Law.?? I am just trying to understand.

Jack

No bull from the IT department - found out the hard way staying somewhere I could not connect to work. We've had a recent upgrade to our servers to be more secure. FYI - if it's a US company sending records to Ottawa, they follow HIPAA guidelines, not PIPEDA, which Canadian healthcare has to follow.

Good thing she has you to tell her how to do her job!! I'm sure she is very relieved now.

Geez Queenbillabong...you really should have thought of all of that.

No kidding, right?

She's not in IT. She doesnt have say so over IT policies, but she is bound by them. It's not uncommon. Maybe you should start a consulting business educating IT staff so they know as much as you. In the mean time, she is just looking for a hotel room that can give her a wired connection so she can access her system per the parameters they have set up.

I don't see ANYWHERE in her post that she is "pissed off" at HoJo. Merely, she made the grave mistake of passing along information.

No, not pissed off. Just passing along information that I found out which may impact other people like it has me. I thought this forum was all about sharing information relating to visits to Disneyland. Apparently not everyone is welcome to do so here - my bad.

Honestly? Why do you care if she stays there or not? Are you a stockholder?

The HoJo is nice but I don't get its cult status here on the DIS. It's a hotel. There are lots of them in the area.

We all go to the place that suits our needs. The HoJo changed one of its amenities and no longer suits hers. She shared that information What is the big deal?

I agree, not sure why :confused3 I think certain people (cough, cough) just like to try and stir the pot. I guess they have nothing better to do on a Friday. Me, I'm going to work some more on my nice secured network and make some money :thumbsup2

It just restarted counting down after I got home:confused3 Maybe it decided on it's own I should have a set date every year:rolleyes1

Granted I have only read the first page.... so... what about using a wireless device? They operate off of cell towers and are secure. Depending upon your location, overage and or roaming might apply. With 3 G it can... it is my understanding that with 4 G networks it will not be an issue. However....4 G is not available in all areas.

I really don't care... I don't stay there! It is too far from the parks, the rooms are dated, the pools are gross and the view sucks... but then again it's the same for all hotels on Harbor!

I was just reading this thread and thought I'd try and help clarify sone untruths:
Wireless is unsecured.
Like I said... It's not a big deal to me I don't care if they have wired or not... And I really don't care if QueenB can do her work or not either...

Thank you for your honest opinions. I know that I appreciate them. I might not always agree, but then, one does not need to of course.

And if you don't care, thanks for contributing so much to the thread, really. Keep in mind that the intent of the thread was to let people know that Hojo no longer offers wired internet - that's it. If it doesn't affect you, great. I'm not asking for suggestions, just passing along a fact.

Sorry, are you saying that wireless is secure? Because that would be an "untruth" since it doesn't take more than a fifth grader with some basic hacking skills to break into most public wireless systems.

WTH is the matter with this person?
I thought the point of this forum was to share information that might help people make their own decisions about planning their vacation with their own vacation needs, budget and priorities in mind.

It's his MO.

It's his MO.

Totally !! ..tsktsk

I am blown away by the silliness on this piece of info - which originally started out as an innocent FYI. Makes it annoying to come to the boards when people get all pissy about a FACT.

But I do love that it was cnstructive in getting the WiFi to 24hr setting!
Very procative HoJo!

Not sure what the wired vs wifi issue really is. Wired at a hotel isn't a secured network. If a hacker can hack the wifi, they can hack the hotels wired. I use a VPN as well and its secure, encrypted etc. Very few hotels offer wired internet anymore. Hamptons used to but thats long gone from the ones I've stayed at.

But what about wireless devices that are on the 3 or 4 g networks, that I had posted about earlier? TIA

I stayed at a Hilton Garden last week with free wireless and when I signed on there was an option for a VPN connection. Not sure if that would be secure for your situation. I've seen it at other hotels too.

No more or less secure than wifi. If you use VPN or SSL, you'll have a reasonably secure connection. If not (wide open on http), your connection is hackable.

Then why were you even reading this thread if it doesn't affect you? And your last comment was uncalled for.
