We stayed in a HOJO Kids Suite May 2010 and loved everything about it, EXCEPT the huge skylights and the freeway noise. We were on the 7th (top) floor in the room furthest from the elevator. I am now planning on booking another Kids Suite for our next trip, but wanted to request a different location. I was hoping to get some feedback.

My questions are:

Which Kids Suite did you stay in ie. room #, or location in building 1?
Did it have a skylight, and how was the noise?

I realize we will have freeway noise no matter what, and I'm willing to overlook that part, because the room really is worth it to me. However, I'm just wondering if the rooms on lower floors, or closer to the elevators may be quieter.

I also REALLY DON'T WANT THE SKYLIGHT! That to me was worse than the freeway noise. Mostly because my kids nap during the afternoon, and it would be nice to darken the room a bit.

I appreciate all your feedback!

Oooh, oooh!! You took our room, we LOVE 7th floor room with the skylights, farthest from the elevator. 1718??

We got 'stuck' staying on the 6th floor this time, lol because someone else had requested the top floor during our stay in May; I have to say, I was delighted with the room darkening curtains on the 6th floor. It was AWESOME!!!! Only downfall was that we did sleep in more than we expected due to the Heavenly Beds (darn you Hojo's! :goodvibes) and the comforting darkness, but I honestly think you will be pleased with anything NOT top floor since you didn't like the light. We did not hear ANYONE above us, I had thought we might, but we didn't.

Personally, I feel it's a 'trade-off' now... I LOVE the high ceiling spaciousness that the 7th floor rooms offer. LOVE the bright light coming in. That being said, bright light comes in regardless, when the curtains are open, through the patio doors, so the room never felt too dark.

My husband probably enjoyed the room more, he enjoyed the complete darkness of the 6th floor room.

It's all good. :goodvibes

Thanks for your reply. It sounds like we'll be happier in a room on one of the lower floors.

Glad I wasn't the one that stole your room

Believe me I would have happily traded you. ;)

Thanks for posting about the skylights. I will now know to request the top floor rooms as I love the light coming in to wake me up! :goodvibes

The room feels more spacious too, because right above the patio doors is an additional spacious ceiling area.

I'm glad my post is encouraging people to request the 7th floor. Means I'll hopefully have better luck getting a room on a lower floor ;)

We had a kids suite on the first floor away from the elevator and didn't really notice the freeway noise. DH said he thought it was because on the first floor you are behind the wall (noise barrier next to freeway) instead of above it. It really does help block the sound more.

I am sure you are right about that. Cool observation. We've only stayed on the 7th and 6th floor so far so I can't comment from any experience, but I do think that your husband is right.

My husband also thought that the rooms on the first 2 floors would be quieter because of the wall. I often wonder if part of the varying opinions on noise level is due to actual room location on that side of the building.

Thank you for your post.

I think I will put in a request for a room on the lowest floor possible, and see how it goes.

We've stayed on the 2nd and 4th floors. I definitely think the 2nd floor was less noisy due to the wall.

Thanks for sharing! I am going to request a 1st floor suite away from the elevator and hope it dampens the freeway noise. DH is a light sleeper!

For those who have stayed on the 1st floor, was there another exit near your room? Or the ice machine? I usually avoid the first floor and try to request the end of the hallway away from the ice machine and elevator because I'm afraid of the noisy pedestrian traffic as folks walk through to get ice/go to the elevator/exit the building.

Thanks!

There was a door at the end of the hall, but we never used it. I don't think it was a direct route to the parking lot. I just remember that it was much faster to exit the doors in the middle of the building (by the store). We never heard any pedestrian traffic, but we weren't actually in our room very much, just to sleep! We did go to bed early, being on mountain time and never heard any noise. It was very nice to just go directly to our room at the end of the day without dealing with the stairs or elevator.

Thanks, liesel! I will stick with our request for a 1st floor suite, especially since I'll have a double stroller and can't easily take that up/down stairs.

Don't worry about taking the stairs if you happen to be on a higher level. They do have elevators. In fact, I think my DS (2 at the time) enjoyed the elevator just as much as the rides in DL. :rotfl2:

LOL! That is funny. The reason why I mentioned the stairs is beacuse I thought I read in some thread about the HoJo elevators being VERY slow/crowded. Indeed, I believe someone in a wheel chair on the 2nd or 3rd floor could never get on the elevator because it filled up with those from the top floors and no one got off and walked 1 flight for the guy.

We were there in May and never had a problem getting right on the elevators. We left early in the morning to be at the park opening, and came back after closing. Never an issue :confused3

I imagine in peak season it could be more of a problem.
