Before Defense Against the Dark Arts, Gabrielle decided to hang back and wait for the other students to clear out of the classroom. She had been wanting to ask Snape something ever since the sorting hat put her in Hufflepuff.
"Snape, may I ask you something?"
"What do you have on your mind," Snape asked tilting his head.
"Well, I know my mother was in your class... um... well do you think that the sorting hat made the right choice?"
"The hat is rarely if ever wrong Gabrielle, like your mother you are kind and want to help others, but she had a dark side. A dark side that I don't see in you," he answered.
"Yes but you hardly know me," Gabrielle said. " I am just worried. The Dark Lord has been looking for me and my family for years, ever since my mother left the death eaters, and I am afraid that it will anger him..."
"That you aren't in Slytherin... I see... Well Gabrielle, don't worry about anything now. The Dark Lord isn't looking for you, he is a bit preoccupied with our newest celebrity," Snape sneered.
"How do you know that?"
"Never mind, pretend as though I didn't just tell you that," Snape said. "Now run along," he said quickly and gave her a pat on the shoulder.
Gabrielle ran to DADA. Everyone else was seated, so she scurried to her chair.
"W-w-where h-have y-y-you been," asked Professor Q.
"I was talking with a teacher," she replied.
"V-v-very well, t-t-take your s-s-seat," he said.
Gabrielle found a seat in the back of the room and thought about what Snape said. How did he know that Voldemort was looking for Harry Potter?
