Hockeyville 2008 is ....

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to vote and support the efforts of our little town of Kingsville, Ontario to become CBC / Kraft “Hockeyville 2008″.

Congratulations to Village sur Glace de Roberval, Quebec for winning this year.

We received just under 1.5 million votes. WOW ... Thank you!!!!

My son and I were at the Kingsville arena when the announcement was made. On a national CBC live broadcast they announced the 5th place community followed by the 4th and 3rd and when Kingsville’s name was not announced everyone at the arena got very excited. CBC had a split screen of Kingsville and Village sur Glace de Roberval as NHL President Gary Betman announced the winner.

Although the message that I posted on here last had to be removed as "vote for me / us" messages are not allowed (yeah I got a warning from the moderator). I did receive some emails from DIS members wishing us success and pleadging a ote or two.

They do however, in Roberval, Qc, make good cheese curds, the key ingredient in poutine.

OK here's my connection to Roberval.
In the summer of 1980 I was taking an extensive french language course.

All summer we took classes in the morning for 4 hours and in the afternoon would have school organized tours of the area.

One of the trips was to a Roberval area cheese manufacturer where they made cheese curds. I thought that was a pretty close connection to Roberval, Qc. Also it's the same factory they took this picture of Gillles Duceppe.

It was amazing that so many of the local communities that we play hockey against came out to support us too. It was amazing!

In Canada, hockey is so much more than just a sport.
