I haven't been to either of these restaurants and was hoping to get my fellow DISers opinions. Please give me the rundown on prices, portions, overall quality of the food and anything else you think would be helpful. Oh and do these restaurants have Happy Hour?

P.S.
It'll be 2 adults and a toddler (2).

You can go here and take a look at the menus yourself. I do believe I remember seeing happy hour menus at some of the places but the details are fuzzy.

We've never eaten at HOB and we got sick when we ate at TJ's. That's why I didn't post, I can't really answer. :) We know we got sick from TJ's because only DBF and I ate TJ's, the girls ate at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen Express and we got sick but they did not. :)

In DTD we love Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen, both the Express and the sit down restaurant and we also love Rainforest Cafe. :) Napolini has good pizza and La Brea Bakery was decent.

We had lunch at the HOB and dinner at Tortilla Jos at the end of July. We enjoyed both very much. Also ate at Ralph Brennans and enjoyed that as well. In all honestly, I can't say which one I would pick if I could only have one meal. They were equally good for us so I would just go with what kind of food we felt like that day.

Tortilla Jos did have a guy walking around making balloon creatures. That may be fun for your toddler.

We've never eaten at HOB, but the one time we ate at Tortilla Jo's the kitchen staff were very good about accommodating a food allergy and we weren't made to feel uncomfortable at all about asking (and what we had was good).

they will make them for any age. i know i had a princess one and a mike from monsters inc. hat made once! oh yeah you can wear the art they
make! :lovestruc

now i have eaten at T-jo's, i liked it, i am hoping to hit HOB in a month. but the menu looks awesome!

We went to HOB on our last (FIRST) trip to Disneyland. The food was good, but it's pricey for what you're getting and I don't feel like it was child friendly. We had our 2 year old and 7 month old with us. It's very loud and pretty dark. They were unable to accomodate a simple request to take jalapenos off a quesadilla for us (cheese crisp is her favorite). It would be fun for a gruop of adults, but I wish we'd just waited for the line at Tortilla Jo's.

We've eaten at HOB a few times and TJ's as well as their taqueria that's to the left of the main restaurant.

From my personal experiences at HOB, I would stick with TJ's. Every time we've eaten at HOB the waitresses have been consistently rude and unfriendly. Dh and I kind of figured it was because we were there as a family with our two young dd's and they preferred customers who were more likely to run up bigger tabs with alcohol. Whatever the reason, I'm never going back. The CS was horrible and on top of that, the food was really sort of *meh*.

At TJ's on the other hand, everyone has been consistently friendly and the food is great. If you're from an area where you aren't used to Mexican food or it's just not your thing then maybe TJ's wouldn't be a good choice but it's usually our 1st coice.

I think we ate at TJ's a few years ago on our first trip, but I wasn;t really paying attention since it was pouring out! But it was fine.

We just ate at HoB in July since we had the restaurant.com GC, and I tell you I am not really at all picky, but I really did not enjoy it. At all. Thought it was a ripoff even with the GC and the food was not good.

I too ate at HOB last trip because I had a restaurant.com gift cert. We were not thrilled ... it wasn't bad ... but it wasn't good. I would pick TJ's over HOB anyday. I think you can get a better deal from TJ's also - 2 adults can have margaritas and eat from the appetizer menu and be pretty full IMO.

Oh and do these restaurants have Happy Hour?

According to Funball TJ's does! That was news to me :) I think they are the only restaurant in DTD that does. I believe it was 2-5pm? Maybe 3-5. Do a search on the thread "happy hour" and those posts should pop up.

we really enjoyed the counter service at tortilla jo's. So much so that we ate there twice this past week.

I think it more has to do with do you want Mexican food or Southern cooking?

I love the fried chicken at the HOB and their shrimp po' boy. The Sunday Gospel Brunch at HOB is one of my favorite meals.

Tortilla Jo's is good, but expensive for Mexican food. You can probably find better tacos at 1/3 the price within three miles of the park.

...or at the Tortilla Jo's counter service option on the side of the main restaurant building :goodvibes

I agree, but you pay for the convenience and atmosphere of DTD IMO :)

Jenpace, yes the counter service place is great! :goodvibes

I guess we'll be going to Tortilla Jo's... the nachos with shredded beef looked really good! I can't wait!!!:goodvibes

I agree, I just went there the day before yesterday and the food was 'ok'...too pricey in my estimation. The hosts were not very accomodating with my 3month old...and seemed to be a little snobbish because we had young ones...although my children were quiet and acting perfectly. I will still try it though to give it a fair opinion.:cutie:
