HOA put lien on my house-Can this really be happening

I noticed you have to pay "Attorney Fees". My advice is to find out whether or not this Attorney is on the board, is related to someone on the board, plays golf with someone on the board.................. I think you see where I am going with this. If that is the case I would find anyone else that has been subject to this egregious behavior and have an investigation into whether or not a Lawyer is lining his pockets with the help of someone on the board who may or may not be getting a little something in their pockets as well. Maybe free round of golf, the occasional meal at an expensive restaurant etc.... Just a thought!

This thread is FIVE YEARS old. I think the problem has been resolved.

HOA's are unnecessary. City zoning codes should take care of most of it.

And if somebody wants to paint THEIR house chartreuse, it's THEIR business.
Because THEY own it.

I kind of have a hard time with this, it brings down the value of the the whole neighborhood. Ideally a house is also an investment. A neighborhood of brightly colored houses would probably bring down the value. There is a house, not far from DLR, that each side is a different color, with a different bible verse painted. Personally, I would never buy in a neighborhood with that house.

That being said, you have the opportunity when purchasing, to review the HOA governing documents and decide if the community is a right fit for you. If not, typically you can get out of the contract, no harm no foul. You have to do your homework when making such a major purchase.

HOA's are a pain and in my case have held down the value of the home. People factor the HOA dues into their monthly budget and when you look at the cost of the monthly mortgage cost and the dues together it is a negative. Prices in my neighborhood have been flat for pretty much 5 years where homes in the community across the street with NO HOA has jumped significantly.
