I've been consistantly re-writing this epic for 5 years about Bert from Mary Poppins. There are a few things wrong with it:

it is too violent for young children
for example - Bert goes listening to the hamadryd - the living symbol of hate
at the end, Bert chokes his brother to death and throws him into a fire
it is very dark and scary
Mary Poppins isn't in it
My greatest fear is it might harm Mary Poppins

however on the good side, it is filled with award winning poetry
it made 2 people cry who read it
it has been claimed to have a "remarkable potential"
I have gone to 3 writing classes to write it

hmm...should I try to publish it or not? I am wanting to ever so badly, but hesitant because of the great mess it might make!

DO IT!!!

Mary Poppins has been around so long that it would have a mainly adult audience.

Also, don't be afraid it's too 'dark'. As long as it doesn't say on the cover 'a happy, cheerful tale of bert from mary poppins', people won't expect it to be that!

Please go for it! I'd read it, it sounds like you could get a cult following!

Hmmm, sounds a little bizarre to me, but I'm probably not the target audience. Why wouldn't you try to publish it if you (and others) think that it's worthy?
