Welp, it's crunch time. I'm heading out tomorrow with DD16's high school band field trip. Sixty high schoolers and ten adults. (not a bad ratio, actually). Wish me luck. We'll only be in the parks Saturday afternoon and then all day Sunday, so it's a fast and furious trip, for sure.

I haven't been back since September '16. I'm curious-- I'd have thought it would be full hours for Memorial Day weekend, but it's only 9 a.m.- 11 p.m. Is this usual?

I think they are expecting low crowds with the passes blocked. That's my only logical conclusion. So this could be a good thing?

This seems to be a new trend. Saturdays in June and some other days with blackouts have shorter hours. Kind of annoying. I discovered that our week in June has few 8 to 12 days. It's definitely abnormal compared to previous years, but appears to be the new norm even into July.

I just checked the hours for tomorrow and its 8-12...

Did it show 9-11 last week for Memorial Day? Did they decide to change the hours?

They do that sometimes (when they decide they screwed up crowd calculations I think). Did the same thing the week before Christmas when au was there (it was CRAZY busy). Tues morning DL was closing at 11pm and by Tues afternoon it was midnight and by Wed DCA had gone from a 8pm close to 10pm. Enjoy the extra hours anyone lucky enough to be there right now!!!

Hmm. So Disney is charging an extra 15% over "regular day" for "peak day" tickets like June 15-16 and June 22-23 and then because of SCAP and DAP blockouts (maybe???) they are reducing hours from the normal 8AM-Midnight to 9AM-11PM at DL? That is a 12.5% reduction in hours. And this is a "peak" day? :sad2:

Disney are you really doing this? Are you purposely trying to alienate your fans?

Your post suggests to me that these are newer tricks for DLR. These are tricks that have been SOP the last few years at WDW. I’m sad to see it creeping west, but I’m glad we’re gettinf our DLR visit before too many more.

Yah, I saw them at WDW a few years ago and when I posted on the WDW forum here about it and said it was wrong, I was told quite directly by some of the senior posters there that I was just plain wrong to complain.

Ah.
So you aren’t surprised at all.

For the record, looks like Disney has expanded DL hours on June 22-23 to 9AM-Midnight. June 15-16 hours are unchanged 9AM-11PM.

It just seems so odd, I was accustomed to seeing full hours for holiday weekends. We were there Sat. May 26th and Sunday May 27th, and I was very surprised that the hours remained 9-11 (8 a.m. EMH for CA) instead of 8-midnight. And for the record, it was VERY busy and crowded. It turned sunny and warm on both afternoons, and wait times got pretty crazy; FPs for the bigger rides gone by 1 -3 p.m.

I was here last Saturday and it was busy but it wasn’ bad at all, very manageable. It was less crowded then the Saturday two weeks prior when the so cal tickets were still valid.

This is quite a bummer!
I was planning to use my MM on Saturday August 11th, but judging by the pattern, the hours will be 9 to 12.
That's one hour less of usual MM, is it worth it? I chose this date because it was a blockout date and I heard that Tuesdays MMs were the busiest.
Now it's making me doubt my entire plan.
Thoughts? :(

That's not an hour less of MM. MM is always one hour long at DL. It is just an hour later so more people may show up by 8 than would show up at 7. You will still get an hour long MM.

Thanks for the reply!I I guess I meant I was bummed that it was one less hour of park hours, ie MM starting at 8AM instead of 7AM.
And yeah, now I'm worried more people will show up, but it's a block out date. I'm torn between Saturday and Tuesday MM now!
