So, what's the scoop on this part of the resort being finished? :confused3 We were there in 2005 and they were building and thinking that this year (December 2nd) we could go to that new part of the resort and stay there...NOT! :sad2: It isn't finished and it has been two years? :sad1:

Anyone have updated news about this???

Thanks...Tammy :santa:

The building sites were heavily damaged during a hurricane. My understanding is that the cost to repair the sites, especially after so much neglect, is to high and so is the cost to just tear them down.

Canadian Guy/ Knox has a really good report on it. I don't want to link it without his permission, so hopefully he will post it!

Thanks NatalieLA (feel free to link to any posts of mine anytime you like)

Well, yes there are pictures in my SIG.

Construction on the resort stopped after the travel drop proceeding 9-11. It has not resumed since. There has been no meaningful construction since then.

There are 2 of 10 buildings that would house guests which are exterior wall complete. The interiors are not finished. Bare concrete walls and floor. There are no bathrooms, plumbing or interior electrical. One of the two guest buildings doesn't even have an elevator or stairs.

The "main hall" is exterior complete. It's impossible to see inside to know what the state of the interior is.

To my knowledge, there was no hurricane damage that is readily obvious. The railings that appear to metal and falling apart aren't really metal railings at all, but temporary wooden 'railings' put up during the construction phase that have started to fall apart after years of neglect.

The vast majority of rooms have windows and doors installed and intact. There is one room at least with the door wide open. You can see pictures of ALL this in the link in my signature.

Should construction be restarted, it would appear that the buildings as they stand now would be just fine. They are solid concrete construction. Hurricane force winds might damage parts of the roof or break a window, but it's not going to damage concrete walls.

Even if Disney had to tear them down, that's not a deal breaker. If they think there is profit at the end of the construction, they'll do whatever it takes to finish the property, open it and make it profitable.

The last 'good source' of information I had spoke to about this indicated that there is a tentative plan to re-start construction in mid-late 2008 for a 2010 or 2011 opening. My source had no idea if they would be 'family suites' like they did at All Star Music or if they would just open regular rooms.

All that said, this is a resorts question, not a theme parks question and I'll be moving this thread over there. :)
