I called to verify my point totals - I knew I had 10 holding points this year that had to be used or forfeited. Before I made the call, I reviewed the situation -

We have a week at HH during the 4th of July, booked with a combination of this year's HH points and cash (for the weekend nights.)

We will be closer to WDW by at least 5-6 hours than normal.

We have the following week free - no work, school, or summer obligations.

We have APs that expire July 15.

We have already borrowed most of next year's HH points but had enough left over to book 4 nights in a 2BR dedicated at OKW.

So, I ask you, what would you have done????:rotfl:

And, by the way, I still haven't used the holding points!!! I can call within 60 days of our July trip and have then reallocated, then I'll be able to bank them into next year. (Essentially I'm switching 10 holding points for 10 current Use Year points, which can then be banked.)

I'm going to Disney World!!!!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Good for you :thumbsup2 I would have done the same thing!!

Can you explain to me about the reallocating of holding points? I thought that you automatically lose these?

Here's what happened. I had a last minute trip over Spring Break, and I booked a 2BR for one of the nights because it was the only room on property adn I needed to make sure we had a reservation!! I really wanted a 1BR, though, so we could stay at the same resort and not have to move rooms. When the waitlist came through, I had 10 points that I no longer needed for the 2BR, but I had borrowed them from next year, so they became holding points. I have a March Use Year, so I have to use these 10 points by February 28, 2009 - and I can only make a reservation with them 60 days or less from the time I want to stay.

The person I spoke with at Member Services said I could call back 60 days from the first checkout day of my July vacation, and she would "swap" those points for me - I could apply the holding points to the reservation and put 10 "regular" points back into my March 2008 Use Year. I could then bank those 10 points into next year if I wanted, without the restrictions placed on holding points.

So in a few weeks I'll call and do that - it will be very satisfying not to lose those 10 points!!!!

We are new to the DVC experience, trying to decide if it might be worth it for us to "jump in", my DW absolutely LOVES WDW. (well who doesn't)
and I adore my DW and 4 DK. We try to be sound fiscal planners, so we are taking our time with this decision, going very slowly.

BUT THEN I read a post like this and I want to run screaming in the other direction! :)

But I must say, thanks for keeping it in perspective.
