Hi I need some help, I will be on vacation in Orlando from 27th Sep 2010 to 14 th Oct 2010 as we have some friends from Australia on vacation in Las Vegas we would like some cheap flights from Orlando to LV on the 4th Oct(mon) returning either 7th or 8th when would be the best time to book and who with?

Also what are these "dings" Any help would be appreciated as at the moment the prices are about $304 plus tax which is almost as much as we paid to fly transatlantic.

Hi Tiggerlady! I do believe that SWA does offer flights from Orlando to Las
Vegas, not sure about other airlines.

DING is a special software by Southwest Airlines that you load directly onto your computer. Go to Southwest's home page and there's a link to the DING program.

Usually once a day (not always) you'll get a DING and Southwest will offer special fares into and out of certain cities. You can set up your profile on DING for up to 10 cities. Make sure you include Orlando in this profile. These fares will only be available for a limited time (anywhere from 2-10 hours generally). And not all cities will have DINGs everyday. Orlando "usually" gets at least one DING a day, sometimes more. You have to be willing to check your computer often and be available to jump on these fares as soon as they come up.

You can subscribe to this thread as we try to keep it up to date on the current DING offers.

In addition to what pp said, Dings are to sell empty seats on a plane. Usually Dings are for as soon as 1 week in advance to maybe 2-3 mos in advance at most. Just saying so you don't start looking for Sept/Oct dings now. I wouldn't even start seriously looking until around June, except just to learn how it works.
On or around March 23, SWA will release a new calendar that includes your dates. If you look under Travel Tools tab it will state the next release date and which travel dates that release will include. This is subject to change so keep checking.

Thanks Ruadisneyfan2 for your wise words, I will keep an eye on this thread to monitor the flights and I will checkout the South western web site as per your instuctions, however it is very difficult to not buy some seats now as I am worried that they will all go and as driving to LV is out I am going to find it difficult to be patient.
