History of DINGS Fares for Orlando

New to these boards. Is it better to book SWA as soon as the rates are available (we are going Nov 13 - 20) or wait until there is a Ding?

I'd wait a bit. I just got burned by booking 3 weeks ago. If I had waited til this week I would have saved over $230 on my family. You are still far enough out, you should be fine to wait.

Thanks, my wife is nervous about waiting too long to 'save a buck' as she says

Hi Lynn :wave2:

Even if the fares go down in a special sale, not necessarily a Ding!

I don't know but I know I've done it with a Ding.
I just called SW and they walked me though it and credited the difference toward a future flight.:)

You are traveling mid week, so wait. Your market is a great DING market, so you should do well. Just watch the SW site EVERY day and the DINGS.

Well that is the beauty of SWA! There aren't any charges for changing reservations.

tink

I have read two different opinions on SWA changing reservations. Some people have said they weren't allowed to yet others said they had no problem when thet called the SWA office not their 1800 number. What's the real deal?

The way I understand it, it is easy to change your reservation but depending on how you originally booked, you can't always get a refund. The money difference would sit as a credit for a future flight.

There are great rates, lower than the regular fares through the end of service. They have $49 from Dulles all the way until at least September. Already bought my September air

really? where? I've been looking for low fares for aug 26 to sept 2. i'm in mechanicsville md and will use either dulles, BWI or reagan national....would love any advice...i'll be a 1st time flyer as well  thanks

Tammy, the $49 is only one certain days of the week. You will do well, trust me. Just hang on a bit more, you have time. We fly down there every year in early September and get great rates from both Dulles and BWI.

I am watching your exact dates for a few clients and so far it has been regular fare, but I am confident it will go lower. If you really have to have a certain flight time though, I would buy now and hope for a credit.

ahhh gotcha :thumbsup2 yeah i want to get there bright and early on the 26th ;) coming home, time really doesnt matter :) like I said before this will be my 1st time flying :scared1: there will be 6 of us..ive been reading everything i can possibly read on SWA...is it true that we could all be split up on the plane??? I want my family with me. thanks

Waiting for a DING for Aug. Can I change my flight to a DING fare? I don't think I have done it before.:confused3

Hi Tammy,
SWA does not assign seats. Your best bet is to check-in online 24 hours prior to boarding and hope for "A" boarding tickets. You will see people starting to line up to board in the airport possibly up to 45 minutes early. Generally, though, if you have an "A" boarding pass, you most likely will get seated together. SWA has preboarding for handicapped/children under 4 (I believe) and senior citizens.
Then there is A, B and C boarding to follow in the order.

Hi Poohbear,
If you get a DING you'll need to cancel your original flight and rebook. Here's what I do.
Keep the DING fare window open and open a second browser window to go to your original SW flights. You'll need to go to "travel tools". Once there, cancel your flights. The money will go into your "travel fund". Once cancelled, immediately rebook the DING fare. When it comes time to pay for the DING fares, click on "apply travel funds" and your refund should be there. This will immediately be credited towards your DING fares. You will have money left over which will stay in your travel funds account for up to 12 months to be used toward future flights.
I know some here have gotten their credit cards refunded, but I have not been successful in doing that.

Good luck. :thumbsup2

I have been getting $44 DING fares for most of July from BDL to MCO. It has popped up quite a bit for travel 7/2-7/31. Also finding $49 too for certain flight #s. Waiting for a DING for September as we have 2 trips planned!
