History of DINGS Fares for Orlando

Can anyone else see the 2:30 Ding mentioned below? It's not showing on mine and I'm interested in the Indy connection.

I just checked my backdoor link and it's not showing anything but the one I posted this morning. Do you think it might be a targeted Ding?

I can see it. I'm from Indy. We got $97.00 round trip for April 28th, coming home on May 5th. Woo hoo Saturday to Saturday showed a higher fare. So we just adjusted our trip by a day.

I received a Southwest email offering DTW to MCO for $94 one way, but when I go to the site, there isn't anything less than $200 one way offered?? I've tried multiple date combinations and it always comes up the same. :sad1:

Sorry - yup, it was targeted! I set Orlando as my home airport so I never miss an Orlando Ding! :thumbsup2

ACK! While messing around with the dates for the Indy to MCO for $87.00 RT a window popped up saying something like I had tried too many options and to try again later! :confused3 I guess now I have time to figure out how to convince my DH that those AP's we just bought need to be USED to get the best value out of them. If we only had more DVC points this wouldn't be an issue. Hmmm :scratchin I wonder if I could "power sell" enough on e-bay to fund a little weekend getaway...

:smooth: I may have to be sneaky about this one...

Well, I broke down and booked a flight out of Chicago (we live in Indianapolis) and will actually get down a day earlier. I was too nervous that I wasn't going to get a ding. I got $70 one way for three of us. So it came out to 536 with taxes...about the same cost of renting a car, gas, and hotel for the drive down and back.

I have a few questions for all you SWA users. IF by chance I find a lower fare, will I get credit? If so, how do I go about getting it?

Also, me & DH signed up for the rapid rewards, but how do I get rewards for my DS's ticket?? Do I have to sign him up for Rapid Rewards too?? Or can he be put on one of ours?

Thanks for everyones input!! This is such a great board and post!!

YOU ROCK!!

Did you miss today's targeted DING? It was posted one page back and was for Indianapolis & Chicago. I don't know if it's expired or if it covered your dates.

Even if you missed this lower fare maybe another will pop up. Just pay attention. If not, your time is worth the extra cost if it's already break even with driving. :)

If you find a lower fare I think you get credit. I've never done one but lots of people on this board have explained the procedure when they've done it. Just do a search. If you can't find anything maybe someone will chime in with the procedure again.

Rapid rewards - I think I had to sign my son up for his own account. I don't think they'd give me the credit for all the tickets I purchased, just the ones I flew.

Keep watching, you might get lucky. In the meantime find out what you need to make a change. You might even get to fly out of Indy.

I see someone posted what looks like another targeted DING. I'm hoping for one for that time period. Maybe I'll get one targeted to my area. I'm going to stay on top of my computer this evening. :teeth:

Were you able to get the Ding?

I just did a search trying to find the answer. I have never done this but I'll post what someone else recommended.

They said open two browser windows. Pull up your current reservation in one and pull up the ding in the other. Get the ding to the purchase point where you have the option to apply ticketless travel funds. Switch to the other window and cancel the higher priced flight. Once you have your credit # then switch to the ding window and insert the # for your ticketless travel funds.

I guess there is some measure of risk that the ding fare might be sold out while you take the few minutes to maneuver. I don't know if being in the process of booking holds the ding fare.

If you aren't using a ding but find a lower fare I believe you can just make your changes and they give you the credit. You don't have to cancel and rebook.

If any of this information is incorrect I hope someone will chime in with a correction.

This is what I did a couple of times last year....with the two browsers....cancel one....take the new credit with SWA and apply it to the new Ding fare.

If I remember right, it says somewhere on the cancellation page that it might take up to 24 hours for your credit to be available to use. Ouch if/when this happens. I have never had to wait. Cancel one and within seconds I had the credit to use. But I guess you take that chance if you use it immediately.

Another big fear of mine when I play with ressies is that my browser window that is ready to apply payment for the great Ding fare will crash or give me an error when I put in my payment info. Then when I enter back into the system, I can't find the great fare....This nightmare plays over and over in my head each night :-)
