History of DINGS Fares for Orlando

Stupid question here (and it might have been answered in one of the prior 156 pages but I didn't read them all): WHAT is a ding? I'm assuming it's some kind of sale. Do you use it before you buy a ticket or do you use it to buy the ticket in the first place?

Stupid question #2: How do you get it? I saw a post on the first page about getting "backdoor" access but that looks complicated.


Our details:
We've booked our hotel for 17-27 June and need flights now from San Jose, CA (SJC) to Orlando. I've been checking Southwest every day as they seem to have the lowest prices, but they just keep going up -- a few dollars a day.

Would you recommend booking tickets for June now, or is it likely to go down before then? We are 6 people.

Go to the Southwest Airlines website and download the Ding. Then whenever a sale comes up you'll automatically be notified. You have to book it through there to get the special pricing, and it only lasts a few hours.
I would think that it's way too early to book for June, but if you were to book and a better price came up it would not be a problem changing it. Southwest is really good about that, you just have to use the money saved (that they put into your "account") within one year.

I for now am done checking my dings. I used to live for that darn ding sound, sometimes it would ding two or three times a day. Where have all the dings gone??? I now have joined the $9 fare club on Spirit. Hoping I have better luck with Spirit out of ac rather than sw out of philly. The problem with spirit is so few daily flights and no credits.

I used to book dings and then check our schedules. If we could do it, fine. If not, there was always a credit to be had later. I will miss SW.... I feel they are not discount any longer out of philly.

I feel the same......used to get DINGS for $39, $44, $49, $59............now, lucky if I see $79 to $89 each way. I have checked fares with Spirit, Airtran and even found better fares with US AIr. It's no longer worth holding out for those last minute DINGS when I can now book ahead for the same or less out of Philly. Our family of 5 have gotten different seating categories (some of us A and others B).


Last year, when I checked the Nationwide sale email, I was able to fly to and from PHL to MCO for $99 roundtrip when choosing arrival/departure days of Tues, Wed or Thus. I just checked today, and it's $180 roundtrip picking Tues or Wed to arrive and leave. It is not the same.

Wow tell me about anni ding rates. That would be great. When did you fly? We are going the first week in Sept. I know last year there were quite a few dings for Sept. My only problem waiting on ding is we need 5 tickets and want early morning flights. do you think I could wait on dings or buy when I see tickets less than 100.00 each way. The prices now are running around 89.00 one way. That's not too bad. We flu Sept 06 with Delta (didn't know about dings) for 250.00 round trip and thought that was great.

I have 200 round trip budgeted for each of us but If I could cut that in half that's more money to spend at WDW.
