throat hurts, feels achey, but he says he's not running a fever, so he's not sick!!!

Hello!!!!! You are still more than likely carrying the nasty stuff and spreading it around our office. GO HOME!!!!!! And stay there for until at least Monday.

And to our boss, if he won't go on his own, tell him to go and not to come back until Monday. Some of us are doing everything we can to stay away from the nasty stuff, help us out and get him outta here.

And yes, the wife is a confirmed case.

I just needed to get that off my chest.

Don't you just hate when someone is too self centered to think that his place of business cannot operate without him and goes to work without regard to his co-workers?

Vent away, I understand.

You can have H1N1 and not have a fever. I didn't have a fever and I tested positive. If you look it up online, you'll see that about 35% of H1N1 cases do not have a fever. That's part of what is helping to spread it. Like your co-worker, people think, "If I don't have a fever, I can't have the flu," and they go to work/school. Wrong!

Jess

PS...my brother's boss told him to stay home last Friday because his family had the flu, and he was completely symptom free.

Vent away, and I agree... and the grocery checkout guy hacking, sneezing and breathing heavy all over my groceries should go home too. Maybe he got the hint when he gave me a pen to sign my receipt with and I ignored him and took my own pen out of my purse...

That's why the flu and multitude of other sicknesses going around are being spread so quickly. Ugh!

Maybe he doesn't have the time to use?

Avoid him, sanitize everything, wash your hands, etc.....

Strange...I just realized that someone coming to work sick doesn't bother me at all. (As I listen to the hacking and sneezing all around me.)

My husband just said that to one of the people on his team this week. His kids all have it and he told the guy to just stay home. My friend's son has the flu and she kept all of her kids home so they wouldn't spead it to everyone. Sure some people don't have the time but more often than not they just don't think they can be away from work or simply don't want to.

Can you wear a mask at work?

I would stay far, far away from him.

He's salaried....if he leaves, he will still get paid.

The girl who sits directly in the same area, has a can of Lysol sitting on her desk and every time he gets done hacking, she is spraying the heck outta the area. As soon as he leave for lunch, she is spraying his entire area down. And when she is out on her lunch break, she's going to Office Depot and buying more cans of Lysol on the companies dime.

Normally when someone is ill or doesn't feel good, I can cut them some slack, but you have a confirmed case of it in your home, you don't feel well, it's all over the news on how to help preventing the spread and yet he just doesn't get it and stays here....UUUGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a tough one. I've been on jobs where people would get mad at you for coming into work sick and I've had a job where you'd work as long as you're breathing. I can't condemn this guy.

Salaried employees have limited "leave time". He might not have leave time available.

Exactly. Your darned if you do and darned if you don't. Stay at home and people will judge you. Go to work sick and people will judge you. You can't win. :confused3

I do the payroll and around here, the salaried people are the only ones who get unlimited sick days and berevment pay. Everybody else, is hourly and you only get 3 sick days a year and 0 days berevment. Salaried people always get paid their regular wage, no if, and, or buts about.

And no one around here will judge him for going home...we all would prefer him to go. The only one who might want him to stay is the boss. If he goes home the boss would have to cover his job for 2 hours today and 2 hours on Friday.

I have a question for ya 5lilfish....Did you have any stomach symptoms with your confirmed case? I have been hoping to find a confirmed case that didn't have a fever..my dd has been home since last wednesday with all the symtoms but no fever..Doc says it's unlikely since she doesn't have fever..She has had diarrhea for ten days though. I have heard that can be a symptom too..I guess it doesn't matter..but would be nice to know if she got a mild version and is done with it for now..Well mild in the sense she has no fever..she certainly is wiped out.

sorry..didn't mean to highjack the thread!! Vent away!!!

I read this and literally went :scared1: That's just disgusting.

I bet I can make you do :scared1::sad2::headache::headache::sad2::scared1: even more.

Take a guess on how many men are hourly and how many women are salaried. It's the same number for both questions and you don't need any fingers or toes to count on.

You win that bet. BEYOND disgusting... :headache:

Yep. Vomitting/diarrhea can definitely be a symptom of this strand of the flu...but I had it the other way. I didn't hold ANY food down for 2 1/2 days and I was even having trouble with liquids. My doc ended up faxing in a script for an anti-nausea med because dehydration was becoming a real possibility.

Watch out for dehydration. I'm very prone to it and it can come on very fast. I've landed myself in the ER hooked up to a saline IV a few times.

Wow, that is amazing. Here we get 8 hrs sick leave a month. If that is the case he should be at home. It's not worth the risk.

When I first started my salaried job I got violently ill and actually had to take unpaid leave because I didn't have enough sick time yet. I was peeved.

I have been out of work 4 days now. I have been remote connecting from home and the phones were forwarded to my cell. My ds is on day 6 of H1N1 and I've been achy and running a fever, so I was going back today (mask required), but I had to take my dd to tonsilitis and possibly strep. I was told to work from home again today and I'm lucky to be able to do this since I'm on salary.

Two years ago, I got the flu (even with the shot) and worked in a cube at a different company. I was out about a week and luckily it was the first of the year so I had sick time available. I would have HAD to work without time available as we were on a point system and you lose X amount of points for being absent no matter the reason. Loss of more than a few points meant termination.

I have the same thing! All the symptoms(and diarrhea) but no fever! I haven't been to the doctor yet. If it gets worse I will but it's only been 3 days. If it doesn't go away soon I'm definitely going to the doctor. I'm in 11th grade so I need to get back to school :headache:
