Hire Car Question?

What about driving on the left? Was that harder and can you get a sat nav system in the car (I get lost a LOT).

Trailfinders will match any Alamo quote. We got a price for an intermediate car with a free upgrade to a full size and they matched their full price car to that price. Wanted to do this as it kept all under one roof on one deposit.

You'll probably find it much easier if you drive on the right :)

Seriously though, driving on the "wrong" side of the road is not a problem and you will very quickly get used to it. In fact, I find it much harder to adjust to driving on the left when I return...

I've never ordered a Sat NAv system myself but most of the car rental companies now seem to be offering it as an option.

Driving on the right in an automatic is pretty much straightforward. The only thing I found odd was that direction signs are before the junction rather than at the far side of a junction as they are here which caused some confusion.

If you are renting for a while it may be cheaper to take out an annual insurance policy which covers all the excesses and waivers (theres one at just over £100).

Sorry, i haven't joined in with this post since starting it - all new to us!! Someone said that Virgin were expensive but the car hire was included in the price plus upgrade because of Frequent Flyers.....is this all hype or a con.....do they put the price onto the insurance instead? In plain english am i being ripped off. They want something like £260 for 2 weeks for the "top" package of insurance.

When I got a "free" car with Virgin made all the money on the insurance so it ended up being more expensive than if I had declined the free car and taken the car plus insurance from elsewhere.

You can get an annual insurance package for about £100 I think but I've never done it so I'll let someone else chip in for that :) If you had this and took the free car that might work out cheapest :)

When I went last November the car with Virgin was over £100 more including insurance than the exact same car booked through Airline network. I think the only benefit with Virgin is if you are a frequent flyer you get the Free car seats for Children and the Free upgrade to a better car.

For us it still worked out cheaper with Airline Network.

Just done a quick check online and with Virgin a a full size 4 door car with platinum insurance costs around £450

The exact same car airnet is £307.

Even taking the fact you get a free upgrade with Virgin to a premium car that would still only be £352.

Hope all tha makes sense
