We stayed at POP 3 years ago and we were by the bowling pin pool which the kids loved, one day we decided to try out the Hippie Dippy pool and all of our eyes were burning, I'm am assuming from the chlorine levels? We didn't notice anyone else having an issue with it but we even had to poor some bottled water into my oldest daughters eyes they were burning so bad. Did any one else ever have a problem that pool in particular? Reason I ask is this time we requested a preferred room/pool view so i know we will be most likely using this pool more often.

This could explain the burning eyes, from this article

"Another signal it's time to get out of the pool: burning, stinging eyes. Although it's not seriously harmful, when "urine combines with chlorine it becomes an irritant," Wiant says. So if you find yourself squinting in pain after a dive, ask yourself why that person doing the backstroke in the next lane looks so relaxed. It's not that nice of a day."

I thought Disney used bromine or ozone to treat their pools instead of chlorine.

My son's eyes were really bothered by the pool at ASMu, as well as at Pop. We ended up buying him a pair of swim goggles, and he was okay after that. No one else in the family had any issues, I guess maybe some people are more sensitive to that kind of thing.

Last week I was at a Disney resort pool and spoke to a couple of life guards. Somehow, Pop Century was mentioned and one life guard joked around that they refer to the pool as "poop century."

I will say that I require DS to wear goggles even when he's not going under water to keep the water out of his eyes (also because he doesn't understand to keep his eyes shut when swimming under water.) I don't even want to talk about how I feel when I see him squirting pool water out his mouth.

In my experience, itching/burning eyes has to do with low pH levels. (I worked at a pool store for 5 years lol) I don't know the maintenance required for pools as vast as disneys, but alkalinity levels are driven down by acidic rain, and while a pool may look clear can have low pH, which causes itchy eyes or burning skin. Dunno if that is what caused it for your family, but its a theory

Our eyes were literally burning, and watering, my skin was burning alittle bit too especially around my eyes. It was really horrible. We didn't have taht problem at the bowling pin pool though, I thought maybe they used more chemicals in the hippy dippy pool because it is used more. :confused3 I guess it could have been sunscreen oo...not sure though since we have a pool and have never had this problem at home before.
