We are thinking of going to Hilton Head next June. Is there a beach withing walking distance of the hotel? What are the best things to do at the Hilton Head resort?

Yes, beach is w/in walking distance at just over a mile but even nicer to ride a bike (which you can rent on property) or take a shuttle that the resort offers. Lots of fun things to do. Disney has alot of great planned free activities (nature walks, resort tours, naturalist talks) and some inexpensive choices as well (hhi tours, dolphin tours, gyotaku, etc) Plus of course the 2 pools and the beach!!! HHI has plenty of shopping available (a decent outlet mall is w/in 20 min.), minature golf etc. Also a short day trip to Savannah is always nice and my family really enjoys visiting Beaufort which is also close by. Lots to do and a very lovely resort. Plus HHI has many wonderful restaurants nearby!!! I know you will enjoy yourself!!!!

You might want to switch your dates. That is when I am bringing the entire family (in laws) We will be the big group with several units and the children that will be loud and fussy and out of control. We will be there the 1st week of June. Just warning everyone. :jester:

The best things to do at HHI are to beach, swim, and eat.
some folks like to golf and shop, but we like to eat.
they have great local rest. lots of them. You could eat all three meals for an entire week at a different local rest. and not even smell a chain rest.

There really is a lot to do with out it being a place like Myrtle Beach or Orlando. You can ride bikes, horses, boats. Take tours, sightsee, etc.

You will get a couple of gudie books at check in that will tell all that is to offer in way of food and activities.

I really think HHI is not a place to plan like we do at WDW. I feel it is more of a play it by ear kind of place.

You may get there and find you do not want to do anything but rest, swim, and eat. That is the ambiance that the resort has, a lazy summer river or lake retreat. (but at the beach)

p.s. One thing you would have to plan a long time in advance would be a Private Affair with Chef Gordon. I have not been able to experience this in 6 year of going twice a year because I always wait until it is to late. (he is always booked)

Book it! You'll never regret it.

It is a very relaxing resort, with plenty to do. Upon check-in you will bre presented with the week's activities, which run the gamut from silly pool games to early morning nature walkers to dolphin cruises and special dining opportunities. The CMs have developed dozens of age-appropriate activities that make HHI one of the nicest family vacation places. And at the same time you can do nothing and not feel like you are missing something.

The beach is glorious and the pools are fun and refreshing. We've been at peak times and slow times and even at 100% capactiy it never feels crowded.

HHI is why we bought DVC and we've never had second thoughts. (other than why we didn't buy more points  )

Almost doing the single digit dance.....

I would take a slightly different slant on the "walking distance issue.....i would not say it is within convenient walking distance...the walk would be long, and along a busy stretch of road.....if I remember correctly from a couple of years ago, there is a shuttle, and also aprking at the beach house....i will say this however, it is a fantastic place to spend the day, and my wife and l loved our time in HH
