Hello all,

We recently joined DVC with BLT as our home. We bought enough points to allow a couple vacations a year and were hoping to make Hilton Head one of them. When we tried to book (our use year isApril) everything was booked for the months we could use. Can you still buy in there? Is it always a chile gns to book?

HH is very popular during the summer and it can be difficult to get a reservation during that time if you do not own there. It is a sold out resort, but points sometimes become available through DVC when they buy back contracts members are selling. Your best bet, however, is resale. You can get HH points for $50-60 each via resale...much better than the price through DVC.

We stayed at HHI in July 2009 in a 1 BR using AKV points (our second DVC trip). I think we got really lucky though since it is usually booked for the summer, especially studios and 1 BRs because there are very few of them. After that trip, we decided to add on just so we could book there every other year for the summer. We added on directly from DVC for $80/point. Since then, we have added on again, using DVC again just because we needed the points immediately. If we add on any more, we will look to resale as the PP stated.

BTW, I don't understand your comments about your UY being April and "everything was booked for the months we could use." You do realize your UY has nothing to do with when you can go on vacation, right?

We own at BLT and BWV and just this morning booked a 5 night stay at HH in a 2BR in July. It was the 7 month mark but I was still thrilled because I heard it is hard to get in the summer. Very excited for our first trip there. i have always had good luck getting what i wanted at the 7 month mark first thing in the morning.

We own at OKW and HHI and just added more points at HHI. We bought 75 points last year and knew that we'd add on more someday, so we called Disney last week and they have a few hundred points for resale but want $80/point. I was going to add 40 points direct but DH would rather get the most amount of points for our $$$$ that he can and there was a resale with our use year that had 88 points, so we are in the process of buying that at $53/point (there are not a ton of HHI resales out there...you just have to check out the different resale companies). We did a summer trip before we bought, using our OKW points but it was difficult to get the exact days we wanted and had to take a few days that were available and then we drove down to WDW and stayed at OKW for a couple days and visited Sea World. I have also tried to get other holiday weeks and have come up empty, so that's why we bought points there so we could book 11 months out.

At 7 months out, it is starting to look like HH in the summer really depends on when during the summer you want to go. June and much of July were difficult but it seems to be opening up now, e.g., right now you can get the week of Saturday July 27 to August 3 in anything other than a GV, but that may be due to the fact that end of July through much of Aug is often HH's highest time for jellyfish.

Yes, you can still buy HH from Disney (it gets points through exercising right of first refudsal in resales and through foreclosures) or via resale. It is enormously cheaper through resale.
