Wife and I are leaving Sat for Hilton Head. Are there any must do's when it comes to places to eat.

You will have as many different opinions as you have responses...lol. Take the resort's HHI tour, you will learn alot. Do a private dolphin cruise through the resort. Go to Blu' Crabbe's activities. Talk to Mike at the pool....he is a wealth of knowledge.... tell him his Danville, IL guests say howdy. RELAX.

Our favorite eats:

Harold's - a hole in the wall for breakfast and lunch
Marley's - early bird
Wild Wing Cafe - rowdy but fun
Roastfish and Cornbread
Mellow Mushroom Pizza
Low Country Backyard...very good, very small, get there early
Aunt Chiladas - great happy hour apps
San Miguel's - good nachos near the resort

If you eat Mexican go to Santa Fe(really close to Disneys resort) and get the painted desert soup, you will be glad you did.

For Pizza Giuseppi's is the best and again close to Disney resort. Eat there it has a nice atmosphere.

For Seafood, the best for atmosphere and food(IMHO) is Salty Dog and Old Oyster Factory.

Please let us know your must do's when you get back.

the travel channel did a special on the sea shack several years back when it was super popular. the sea shack is still very popular but the chef who started the popularity moved on to his own place - which is roastfish and cornbread. loved R&C when i went to HHI in late 2010.

they are a little more touristy, but frankie bones (lobster mac and cheese) and the skullcreek boathouse are also recommended.

ruan thai and hinoki (sushi) were also great ethnic options.

My vote goes to Guiseppe's as well. They also have excellent salads and hero's, I like their sauce. We go every time we are there, we also take out from them and hang out at the resort and enjoy a meal that's close to NY italian! Not easy to find outside of home (or my own kitchen, if I do say so myself!

You have to eat at Tide me Over or Signals at least once. Get a burger with Onion rings or the sweet potato fries. If Joyce is cooking, consider yourself lucky! She is the best.

We liked One Hot Momma's, Pazzo (across the highway from the resort, under the water tower, the walk over is fabulous), and Signe's.

The best meal we had during our last visit was the one we cooked on the grill next to Big Murgee's Den. We got some very nice steaks from the Fresh Market just down the highway, and grilled them.

You can also come over to Savannah and get a fine meal on River St. If you come over for lunch, try to get into Mrs Wilkes. Paula Deen's place has gone downhill since she quit running the place.

If you want pizza here, go to Vinnie-Van-Go Go's. Be aware that they do not take credit. Cash ONLY!

We went to HHI summer before last and tried a couple of the places already mentioned. Guiseppi's was OK. It is Pittsburgh pizza (whatever that is). Not the worst we've ever had but certainly not the best either. OK enough for a close / cheap meal. I have a friend who goes down to HHI every year & swears by the Mellow Mushroom for pizza. If / when we ever go again we will try that one. We also tried the Mexican place across the harbor from the resort & were extremely disappointed in the meal. Nothing to write home about and certainly our worst meal of the week by far. They nickel & dimed us for extras like sour cream (but didn't tell us when we asked for a little extra on the side - the extra $1 just showed up on the bill). That kinda irked me on top of the just so-so food. We also ate at the Alligator Grille - it was good but pricey and smaller portions. We had a coupon from restaurants.com for that one which was really helpful.

Meals that we really enjoyed included Roastfish & Cornbread (low country cooking), Truffles Cafe (dressy casual) and One Hot Mama's (cheap & very casual BBQ).

Want some gelato? We always go to Pino Gelato, just down the street, once or twice a trip. They have pistachio gelato! For a good and big helping of pancakes (or anything else for breakfast) we like Stacks.

I forgot about a French resturant in shelter cove right across from the resort called Bistro 17. On their lunch menu they have a sandwich called Croque Madame that is awesome. Give it a try at lunch.

At Stacks, you can order a half stack of pancakes.
Jazz Corner has great food and music.
We're arriving in HH on Sunday, hoping for warmer weather.
