We are planning to drive to HH in early May from NJ and were wondering if anyone had any good advice for us. We figured we drive down and see the sights maybe stop in Baltimore and DC for the cherry blossoms and maybe even stay one night before heading to the Carolinas.

Any advice?

We've driven down the past two summers. The first year we stopped outside of Richmond. This year we stopped at D. C. for two nights. After D.C. we stopped again in North Carolina--we had time and were in no real hurry. My advice would be to do what is most comfortable. The drive from northern NJ is about 13 hours. We've tried splitting it evenly and stretching it out. Both ways were fine. AAA can give you a trip pak if you are a member. And you will need to scout out your stop overs. Hope you have a great time. D.C. will be very nice at that time of year.

We drove to HHI in two days. Coming from way north in Jersey, we wanted to make it further than DC/B'more on the first day, so pushed on to Rocky Mount,NC. Not really much there. Having lived in DC for several years, you might want to check if the cherry trees are still blooming in May.

You probably will not see cherry blossoms in bloom in D.C. in early May. Cherry blossoms are more likely to bloom sometime from the end of March until mid-April. The EPCOT Flower & Garden Show at WDW will have lots of plants blooming in May!

Another interesting option is going down the parkway and taking the Cape May Ferry. Then go down the DelMarVa *****ula and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. It is a slower ride than 95 but it is relaxing and you miss the DC/Baltimore congestion. After going over the bridge/tunnel you could possibly check out Va. beach.
