I'm on the waitlist for a 1 BR at HHI for July 3-8th. I know, I know, that's only about 3 1/2 months away--what was I thinking? I'm thinking that other than when I book 11 months in advance at my home resort, my vacation options aren't as "wide open" as I had hoped. What are my chances it will open up?

I love DVC, but I'm thinking instead of an add-on, I may need a Marriott vacation club or some other timeshare for my non-Disney vacations. If DVC had something beside HHI and Florida, I'd have more options for July. Trading into one of the other collections seems to require a lot more points than a DVC resort.

Oh and P.S. Disney's HHI is available for my dates on hotels.com. I'm sure there's a great financial reason for DVC, but all the same, it makes me sad that cash reservations are open to the general public, but a member can't use points there.

This is why I bought HH. This is the only resort you will need the 11 months inadvance. I just booked a 1 bed room at the BWV for May. The 7 months is not an issue with WDW. You can always get a room somewhere.

As a part-time resident of HHI, I can tell you that the week of July 4th is by far the busiest week of the year for the entire island. Kind of like trying to book at WDW the week between Christmas and New Year's. Calling at 3.5 months is rather optimistic (but there's always hope with the waitlist, I guess). Instead of blaming your guide though, you would have been better off trying to book right at 7 months. HTH

I'm NOT blaming my guide. I absolutely realize I was "supposed" to book at the 7 month window, but sometimes opportunities to take vacations come up at different times. Why is it that in the last few months it seems like we are not able to ever express disappointment or displeasure on these boards? If someone did not read the DVC board prior to buying (which I don't believe I did) one would truly not realize that getting reservations at different times would be difficult. When they bring you into the sales center and show you the big map lit up with all the places in the world you can vacation, they certainly don't lead you to believe it would be highly difficult to do so, nor that you'd need to buy a real estate interest in each different DVC to ever be able to vacation there.

Thanks for the info about July 4th being the busiest week on HHI. I had no idea and that's very helpful in planning. That is the type of information that I was looking for. :wizard:

When we were buying into DVC, our guide warned us about times that would be hard to book. For instance, we had a cash ressie at S&D for Halloween weekend, it was August when we were buying. She looked into it, and there was nothing to be had. I think she just checked the BWV for us, since that's what we were buying.

I have to admit that when I read your post, it seemed to me that you were blaming your guide for not telling you that there would be times that rooms weren't available for DVC.

Well I'm going to go and edit it now since that is all anybody here seems to want to focus on.
How about instead discussing the questions.
1) Has anyone ever gotten HHI in July on a wait list less than 7 months out?
2) Does anyone know what percentage of the resort's rooms are given out for cash ressies through outside booking agents like hotels.com?

Hi,

I'm on the waitlist too for 5/22 to 5/27 for HA one bedroom. Pixie Dust for us both. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Thanks Allison! Pixie Dust all around! :wizard:

If it doesn't come through for me, I'm going to go to Washington DC. I still have my 11 night August DVC stay to look forward to. Good luck to us both!

I can answer question number 1. Last summer I waitlisted successfully for July 4th week. I was able to get the days slowly, one by one with the actual holiday being the last one to come along. I made a backup reservation elsewhere, which I cancelled after my days came in. I went on the waitlist about 3 months ahead.

One thing that might help your chances would be if you were willing to take a 2BR instead of a 1BR. There are far fewer 1BRs and studios at HH than there are 2BR villas.

We booked July 4th week right at 11 months. We love being there then -- actually we love being there any time.

Good luck on your waitlist, but truthfully, I think you should be sure to have some backup plans. :worried:

I asked this question in an earlier thread...

what are my chances of landing two 2-bedrooms at the seven month window sometime during SUMMER 2006 (June preferable). Any insights would be appreciated. We are thinking of a large family gathering and I want to know if we are "over promising"...

There is a small percentage of rooms that are owned by Disney. That would possibly be the rooms you see on Hotels.com.

However, one warning about assuming that just because you see rooms on Hotels.com, Expedia etc... they are actually avaialbe. I have had instances where I have tried to book a Disney hotel on these services. Go right along, put in CC info and then it comes back.... We could not confirm this room. Now in some cases they volunteer to check and get back to you and in others they just tell you to start over. (I have never accepted the "get back to me" option so I don't know what really happens then) I just checked out of curiosity and HH is showing sold out on Expedia.

To be honest I don't really like the DVC HH location. (I know I am alone here) I do have 50 points there that I may very well sell this year. If you want a beach type property I would go with the Marriott.
