I've been dreaming of staying at Disney's Hilton Head. With school age children, we would need to travel in March or November. Any advise to which month might be better? I am worried about weather and crowds. Any advice would be great. Thanks! :thumbsup2

I think both March and November would be considered off season for Hilton Head - not really so much beach or pool weather so I doubt you'd need to worry about crowds on the island. Most people with school age children would be going in the summer to make use of the beach & pool facilities. HHI is primarily a summer destination. Not sure which of those months would be warmer but I doubt that either would be really hot...:confused3

Annie - Do you know if pools are heated around that timeframe. I am not a DVC owner but trade through RCI. Trying to get a jump on a search.

No, I don't know for sure but if I were to guess I'd say yes - because the pools in FL are heated (although not enough for ME in the off-season)! I need the AIR TEMPS to be AT LEAST 78ish to feel like getting in the pool...80's better still. :goodvibes If it's not that warm then I'm a hot tub gal all the way!!

Looking quickly at The Weather Channel website it looks like the avg. high in March is 69 and the avg. low is 49 while in Nov. the avg. high is 70 & the low is 50. So Nov. should be (in theory) slightly warmer.

I've been there for Halloween, and it certainly was warm enough for swimming in the pool at the resort. Didn't try the ocean or beach house.

We were there for three days between Christmas and New Year's and there were a lot of kids in the pool; not too many adults! There were a couple of kids in the pool at the beach house, too. Didn't see anyone in the ocean but a few folks sunbathing. It's a beautiful Resort and we loved all the dining choices in HH. Be sure to rent bikes; lots of great bike riding trails.

My favorite times on Hilton Head from a weather perspective are mid-October through mid-November and mid-March through April. The Island is typcially not crowded at those times, it's easy to get in to restaurants, and, in Spring, the flowers are blooming. Summer is awful - more because of the stifling heat than the crowds.

We are at HH now at the end of a 4 week stay. When we arrived the ocean temp was 52 and today it is 64. There are lots of people enjoying the ocean right now (still a little to chilly for my tastes though).

Yes the resort pools are heated. This has been an unusually warm winter at HH (just like many parts of the country). Air temps have ranged from upper 50's to upper 70's during this stay. This week has been mid-upper 70s.

In early November, the ocean might still be warm enough to enjoy a swim, but it cools off dramatically by the end of Nov. By May it will be in the mid 70's and from June - October it will be over 80 peaking at around 85 from late June - late September.

Sounds like I can't go wrong for either timeframe. Thank you for all the posts!:goodvibes

March and November have been the two months where we've made our most trips to HHI. We've spent the last 6 Thanksgivings there. As far as swimming's concerned, one year was like this (yes that's ice on the ledge)-

And one year was like this (and I won't go in the water til it's 85 degrees out)-

Both months are similar, but I think I'd give a slight nod to November for peacefulness, just because of a little more activity on the island around spring break.

I would recommend November.....you will only have problems trading if you want Thanksgiving week. We always go the first week of June, but last year we tried the second week of March....never again!
