Has anyone ever done any diving in or around Hilton Head? If so, where did you book your trip? I am looking to get wet during the week of July 4th (frankly, I'd like a 4-tank dive), but I will be buddyless, and I'm looking for a dive shop or group that may have a trip; surely somebody will be diving that week!

In all my summers at HH I've never seen anything about scuba diving or even snorkling for that matter. The water tends to be quite murky; not sure what (if anything) you'd be able to see.

I read online about a wreck dive that is about a 1 hour Kodiak ride from Hilton Head (I think it is called the Betsy Ross), but it was through a dive group, and the age was archived, and the group no longer seems to be in existence. I would be willing to go out of Savannah, or really anyplace within a couple of hours drive from Hilton Head (I have to get my monthly diving fix!)

Per the info on http://www.hhisleinfo.com/favorite_places_&_activities.htm:

"SCUBA diving and snorkeling are not appropriate sports on Hilton Head because visibility is very low. Our waters are teeming with life, which makes them appear to be murky."

A Google search using "scuba south carolina" came up with:
http://www.charternet.com/diveboat/southcarolina.html
and
http://www.coastalscuba.com/

... among others.

Googling "scuba georgia" came up with:
http://www.florida-scuba.com/georgia_!.htm

... which lists a scuba charter service running out of Savannah.

Thanks for the response. I have contacted one of the dive charter groups, and they are preparing a charter for the week. If anyone else is interested in diving the week of July 4 near Hilton Head, PM me.
