This poll is for the HILTON HEAD.
A reply on a recent post looking for positive reports on BCV stated when
“we do a survey and have people rate their experiences at the resorts. Overwhelmingly, the polls indicate a high satisfaction level with all resorts.”
With this in mind, I am going post polls for each of the DVC resorts. This is not a resort bashing opportunity, but a time to rate your experience at a resort. Please only vote if you had stayed at the resort, not just visited. Because people rate problems differently – some hate lint on the carpet others don’t, some don’t mind waiting ½ hour for housekeeping to fix something others do, I am leaving it open. Rate it on a personal level for yourself.

Please see the other polls to vote for other resorts.

We stayed at Hilton Head over Labor Day in 2002 with a 6 month old. It was a wonderful vacation. The 2-bedroom unit was clean and spacious (I actually think this is the best layout I've seen in a 2 bedroom.) There is a hike to the beach, but we knew that before we went and it wasn't a problem. Lots of great dining and shopping within easy walk. The bonfire was great, cast members wonderful and helpful. The was actually our first DVC stay and it really made us glad we had purchased. We own at VWL and love it there too, but HH was definitely a great vacation!

We stayed at HH for 8 nights the first week of May 2004 in a 2 bedroom unit.

* The drive/shuttle to the beach is no big deal for us. We also liked the beach house idea (bathrooms, snack bar, etc.)

* The planned recreational activities were good. The kids loved them.

* Great room size and nice decks (big as well).

* The on site food and gift shops were ok, but not great.

Suggested Enhancements

* Add DVD players to the rooms

* High speed computer access somewhere at the resort. I would even settle for a "hot spot" by the front desk or at the beach house.

* The kitchens were not equiped all that well.

Overall, we had a great, relaxing trip. We would definately go back.

Rated this poll as exceeded expectations.
Even though we bought into DVC with a home resort of VWL in 2002, we chose DVC HHI for our first experience (in May, 2002). Boy were we unprepared! We had no idea what to expect from HHI (we thought it would be somewhere between CR and WL). WRONG!
I loved the kayak trip. Just do it.... you'll love it too.
The pool at the resort was a lot of fun.
The children (then 4 and 1.75) were always busy with activities.
The biggest thing we were "caught off guard" about was the (virtually) lack of "on-site" restaurants. That's NOT a knock against DVC HHI.... It's a knock against me for not doing my research (I didn't know anything, then, about the DIS.).

I talked to HH management about HS Computer Access. I was told that the issue seems to be that Hargray, the island telephone service provider, doesn't really want to provide / allow broadband access. They prefer to either sell dial-up access, or individual DSL by room, which would be cost prohibitive. HH management told me they were looking for a solution. I too would like to have access, at least as a few hot spots - beach house, Big Murgies Den, and community room.

I found Hargray's dial-up to be a real pain, very slow, frequently dropped connections, or sometimes busy signals.

We have been to HH twice and both times have been great! The rooms have been spotless (a studio and a 2 bedroom). The 2 bedroom was very spacious. We drove to HH so the Beach House was no problem. We did use the shuttle once and service was prompt, so no problems if you do not have a car there. Becuase of the restaurants off-site, the car came in handy.
A lot of activities for the kids, ones that you cannot get at WDW.
A great spot for a nice relaxing vacation!

We loved HH, very relaxing and a totally different atmosphere.

But it would be nice if there was somewhere to get soft drinks after 4 pm. When we came back from exploring the island we would have loved to still sit by the pool with a drink and a snack.. but we had to bring them ourselves.

Sorry, but Disney missed out here and that is why it took so long to sell out.

This is WAY to far from the beach and is not even in one of the Plantations. I don't want to DRIVE to the beach. I want to walk or bike quickly.

DVC Hilton Head Resort is my very favorite resort. I didn't expect it to be either. DH was dead set against purchasing a timeshare, especially a Disney one but did agree to a stay on cash in December of 2000. After 24 hours he was sold but would only purchase Hilton Head, he did not want an on site purchase. I ws just so happy he agreed to buy that I didn't care which resort it was. DH gets his relaxation and I get my Disney, it's a win-win situation!

We love the laid back feel of the resort, the friendly cast members, the spacious 1 and 2 bedroom villas and the activities. We also don't mind driving our car to the beach house and enjoying the ocean and H shaped pool. We're having a mini-family reunion Thanksgiving week and we absolutely can't wait to get there!!!

If I had to change or make enhancements to our stay, the only thing I can think of is that I'd like the gift shop to have more merchandise and room service for those lazy times when you'd like a meal but don't want to go out.

I feel truly special to own at DVC Hilton Head and glad DH insisted we buy in here!

While the resort itself is very nice (we visited, but haven't stayed there yet) I have to agree with CarolA's statement. HH is lacking because it's not on the beach. If it weren't for the larger accomodations at the DVC resort, I'd rather stay at the Westin.

We haven't been to Vero yet. I'm sure we'll love the resort itself...as Disney definitely knows what they are doing there. However, it doesn't seem to be located on the greatest stretch of beach.

If they ever build another beach resort, I'd want it to be on the Gulf coast...better sand...better beaches. We live in the Atlanta metro area and so many people here go to the Gulf for Spring Break and Summer vacation. Easier drive, more activities...better beaches.

This is our home resort, thus the bias.

FWIW, we find a benefit in not being on the beach in that this part of the east coast has a storied history in its bays and coves and significant natural beauty abounds in them. Far too many visitors to HHI and other beach areas miss the very special coastal areas between mainland and beachfront.

Yes HHI is a magnificent beach, but there are thousands of miles of magnificent beach on the east coast. HHI has an extra jewel in Broad Creek. Whether this was Disney's intention or the fact that most of the coast was bought up by the time they built the resort, I feel their location gives this resort a bonus.
